Hey everyone - I'm contemplating changing from DirecTV to Dish. I'm a big hockey fan so I will be getting the Center Ice package. Can you tell me which HD RSN's are full time and do they turn the part time HD RSN's on for a game or during prime time? Any info would be appreciated.

With the Center Ice Package - would I be receiving the same amount of games in HD with Dish that I do with DirecTV?

For Nhl most we carried except for the rangers in hd. But DirecTV did not have those games in hd as well as cablevision is not allowing them access to those hd games.

I want to know why Dish blackout NHL Preseason games in the sports pack? Directv doesn't black these out, do they? For example, the Rangers-Bruins game on MSG right now..

Yeah I figured..I wrote the NHL and Dish about this and they keep giving me the run around about it. Pisses me off

So....Dish blacks out preseason games? Do you have the sports pack? Do you have Center Ice? How is Dish's Center Ice when it comes to HD?

None of them. Dish does not carry any HD RSNs full time.

How does that effect the Center Ice package?
A Dish CI sub would be more knowledgeable, but if the same pattern occurs in CI that occurs when they show baseball on their local HD RSNs, then I would assume that Dish may have more issues with being able to show HD games than Direct. This is because Dish allots a certain number of HD RSN broadcast to occur at one time. This is why many on the west coast get a lot of JIP games and Dish as a whole cannot show as many games in HD. I would guess that CI in Dish would have fewer games in HD than on Direct and you may get some JIP games.

Since Direct has pretty much all of their HD RSNs turned on full time, the bandwidth is already allotted so conflicts seldom occur. This is why they are able to show many more games in HD on their sports packages than other providers and also have fewer issues with JIPs.

D* likes to say they have full-time RSNs, but the games are blacked out all the time (accept for your own RSN, which certainly counts for something). The RSNs on D* are pretty much just the vehicle for distributing the games included in their sports packages and thats about it.

Joined In Progress.

You seldom if ever see this with Direct which is why it is foreign to you. The only way I know about it is from reading the Dish forums.

They often have games that cannot be shown until another game is completed because they have to wait for the reserved bandwidth in order to turn on that particular HD RSN feed.

I never had a problem with HD games on Dish with Center Ice last year. There were never any JIP games last year. But like Scott said, there is no MSG HD, but at the end of last year Directv didn't show MSG games in HD on Center Ice either, because of a dispute between Cablevision and the NHL.

But for the preseason, Dish does blackout games for some reason. Like I said, I have emailed the NHL and Dish and get the run around with the issue. Anyway you can check this out Scott?

Yes Vampz, we know.

That has nothing to do with his inquiry into comparing CI with Direct and Dish.

The point being, since Direct has their HD RSN signal up full time on most of their HD RSN channels (even if a particular game is blacked out, the signal is still up), they are able to show more games in HD on their sports packages with little to no JIP issues. This is because the bandwidth is already available and not limited to a few RSN feeds being up at anyone time, like they are with Dish.

Could it be because they were showing fewer games in HD to begin with and already had those particular HD RSN feeds up and ready?

To help out the OP, do you know how many games were in HD on Dish CI and how many were in HD on Direct CI?

According to DirecTV, most of their games will be in HD this year on CI (40+ SD games and over 30 HD games per week).

Hey! I answered his question!
"Can you tell me which HD RSN's are full time"

Don't get all sensitive on me here...we know you can't stand it when anyone says D* is less than perfect...

The fact remains, ONLY his OWN RSN is full-time...please don't confuse anyone by rationalizing the facts...

I tried to see how many HD games Dish said they will be offering and I could not find any info.

Here was last years DirecTV CI schedule: DIRECTV - NHL CENTER ICE Schedule

I could not find a schedule for Dish. Their website said they will be offering about 40 SD games, which is the same as Direct. I can assume the HD games will be close to that of Direct, but slightly less.

Actually with Dish, his own HD RSN is not full time.

ETA: After rereading your first post, I agree 100%. I guess I read it fast the first time and misinterpreted what you wrote. :up

Also Sabres and I believe Devils not in HD (MSG) with E*. Does that mean all three are not in HD at D*? Just curious because I am shopping around myself...
