FTA signal quality constantly jumps from 20%-65%?

Hoping someone can give me some advice with my problem.

I'm trying to setup a Glorystar satellite system for my grandparents, I've done this several times before with no issues, but this one has me stumped.

I'm aiming at the Galaxy 19 satellite, but cannot lock-in on a channel. I searched for the channels that had the strongest transponder signals, but even though I'm reaching quality strength of up to 65% it does not last for more than a few seconds and then it drops down as low as 20% for a second and then back to 60%-65%, this keeps repeating itself constantly.

I've tried adjusting the LNB skew while someone watched the signal quality, no change, doesn't matter which way I turn it, stays the same.

Suggestions? Ideas? Need more info?

TIA,
Ben

Do you have a spare LNBF you can try? What LNBF are you using?

My Pansat 3500 will do that when I'm not 'right on' in aiming the dish. Don't know if that's same for you but there's a few things to check. Anything that may degrade the signal. Connectors. Check for corrosion on the coax connector and the connectors they affix to. An outer braid 'whisker' entering into the center conductor area of the connector. The coax itself. (Use only 3Ghz rated RG6) Any cracks, abrasions? Could be moisture in the coax itself(?) Temporarily use a short jumper to the dish??
After that 'passes' I guess I'd be trying a different LNBF. Then receiver if all else fails. Maybe someone else has another suggestion????

What receiver?

What channel are you using?

What is the Skew supposed to be?

Is there live video playing behind the Signal Meter at any time or is it a black screen?

If a black screen behind the meter and the Quality meter is jumping, the dish is likely aimed at the wrong satellite.

My viewsat will do exactly the same thing while aiming if the cable is no good. Stumped me more than once!

If you have a short in the coax connector it will do this. Any part of the wire shield touching the center copper wire? Did you crimp your own connectors?

I think that I've seen my receiver do that if the LNB is set to 5150, c band, instead of 10600, Ku. I'd check, but my daughter's watching TV right now.

what transponder are you selecting?

some receivers will do this if you are aimed at DTV 101w and have one of their transponders selected

I have my dish on 97w ku and there is a Data transponder I have seen the same thing. Also it is a good idea also to check your wires to.
