FTA package?

I was thinking of getting the glorystar FTA package. I had skyangel with my dish top 250, mostly because Sky angel was there, and for the family content, not the religious. Now that sky angel is defunct, I was looking at glorystar to replace it, but I'd be just as if not more interested in the other FTA programming. So I'm thinking I should get some more generic FTA package with a motor rather than the glory star one with the two fixed lnbs.

Athough I have put up a couple of simple DBS dishes (dish 500s, etc) I am not by any means a person of knowledge when it comes to this sort of thing. So if there's a simple FTA package with everything you need and some directions (like the glorystar package says they have) I'd be interested.

Is there a FTA package that has the dish, receiver and instructions simple enough for a non techie to install? Another thing, my lot has many trees on the edge, and I have three dishes, one each for 109, 110 and 61.5 which is out in the yard about 80 ft away. That's probably where I'd put this new dish. I'm just wondering if the glorystar system, since it only looks at two sats would be more of a sure thing, for line of sight and less tech knowledge needed to install.

Installing a FTA dish is more complicated than a DBS dish; the aim is more critical, and you must use VERY slow movements when you adjust the dish to correctly find the signal. Once you get the hang of it, however, you'll be able to aim a Ku dish in a matter of a couple of minutes. Aiming a dish with more than one LNBF requires more skill, since you'll have to peak both LNBFs without losing signal on one or the other.

The Glorystar package is by a sponsor here, Satellite A/V. I've got the Glorystar package and it's pretty easy to setup if you've done a DirecTV dish. Same concept. One thing though is that I can easily pick up a motor later and just go with a single LNB if I want to convert it to a fully motorized FTA system. As it is, you can fully scan for FTA channels on the 2 sats it points to so you don't have to have just the religious channels. Lots of international channels on GA25 and AMC4 if you're into that stuff.

Okay, dumb question. If you are using a motor to get to see more than one sat, do you have to aim at each one, or do you aim at one sat and the rest fall in line?

After cruising the offerings, I'm thinking of waiting for the coolsat 8100 since i have and HDTV, and I'm used to a PVR. Should I get the dish, etc, first, to make sure I can even see the sats? and is there a way I can be sure of LOS before investing in an expensive receiver?

When you correctly do the original motor setup ( on your true south satellite ) , and verify it ( or fine tune it on anther bird further away ) , then they all fall into line and USALS should nail them all.

If you give us your longitude and latitude, we can tell you the elevation (height above the horizon) of your true south satellite (the satellite directly south of your position, which will appear highest in the sky).
