I just this morning signed into Satellite Guys and found "Free to Air". I checked some of the links provided, but did not really get a clear definition of what FTA offers. The one page lists hundreds of choices, including Dish Network (me) and many others. But those links just go to their web page. FTA is not mentioned.

Can anyone tell me briefly what is available ? Does it mean you buy the equipment and then get free Satellite TV ?

Sorry for being a "newbie"

Korsjs's link is a great start.

Besides the regularly available stuff, the really neat stuff to get is the remote uplinks for the news reporters and or sports games. You see the raw and un-edited material. No commercials, no bleeps, nothing. A bind scan reciever is pretty much essential to get these though as these broadcasts come and go.

Keep in mind that some sites (not this one!) concider hacking to steal dish network programming 'FTA TV'.

It just so happens that some of the newer recievers for FTA are also prime candidates for the hackers. It sucks for the 'true' FTA folks because these reciever's prices have gone through the roof due to demand from the hack community :(.

FTA is addictive.
