{Let me preface this by saying I have tried to read other threads to make sure I understand...}

Would like to get FTA music channels from Dishnetwork's satellite.

A Superdish was left at house I bought and the guy left a receiver with a balance and closed account.

The question is can I use that "bad" receiver to get the music channels?
I think the answer is "no", you need a FTA receiver.

Second question, if I need a FTA receiver, can I use the Superdish if the only think I'm interested in receiving are the music channels?

Thanks,
Tom

a Dish receiver wont get those unless subscribed to them. A FTA receiver can get them

yes you can. You can hook a line from the 119 LNB to the receiver and there ya go :)

You'll get the CD audio and the mono ones (not Sirius though)

Since the Superdish has DishPro LNBs, you'll also have to edit your transponder list, it's somewhat of a pain. The frequencies are stacked and all vertical. If all you want is the music on 119, you may be taking the easier road by removing the Superdish and replacing it with an old D* or E* dish with single, non-stacked frequency LNBs...

ah crap....didn't know that about the SD

I was under the assumption that as long as you didnt go through a switch, the LNB would allow it to work.

Well, he might have one of those "Hillbilly Superdishes" ;)

If so, Sentry, please disregard the part about stacked freq's :D

(A joke from another recent thread ;) )

"HillBilly" aka "Poor Man's SuperDish"

I thought Dish Network started encrypting the audio channels a little while back on their CD music channels.

Most of Sirius is encrypted, but the other music is still ITC...

As is the Canadian radio on 91w (for the most part), I think one of those stations was recently lost :(

The CD and mono audio on Dish 119 are still in the clear
ExpressVu has 29 radio stations

What use to be free and has been encrypted in the last 6 months or so
-Sirius
-Galaxie (ExpressVu)
-Fan590 Toronto
