So Saturday night about an hour after getting my "2 C-band LNB's on one dish" project was complete I turned on the Coolsat to watch some college football and I have no signal. It was raining so I thought "dish is out" but the other receivers work fine. Checked meter and 0 for both S & Q....uh oh
other boxes work fine on motorized so we have a bad cable from motor to multiswitch...the motor did move. Everything worked fine earlier in the day

Even though it is raining out like a true (or moronic...your choice) FTA'er I get the ladder out and climb up to change the cable. As I get to the top of the ladder it just starts pouring...switch cable and come in to get....SAME THING..no signal on the 5000 but on the other 2 boxes

so back out I go to swap out ports to see if its the switch....yep its the multiswitch..port 1 is bad. So I spend 1/2 hour getting the ports changed and then wrap plastic around the switch to keep the rain out until I can reseal the coax ends. Get off the ladder and I am SOAKED

Go into the basement and throw all the clothes in the wash. Come upstairs and

yep

STOPPED RAINING

huh...isn't it ironic ;)

Yes, but you know:

- if you'd waited, it wouldn't have stopped raining
- you might be soaked, but at least the job was done

And did you then enjoy some fine TV in your robe and slippers?

Even more Ironic would be if this is the same switch that earlier this year you posted about using and not using one port because that port was bad.....time to throw out that switch!!!:(

nope not that one. It worked up until about 4:00 when I turned the system off and worked on the "2 LNB on a 6 foot dish" setup

I have a couple 4x1 diseqcs that have port 4 blown out...which I learned yesterday when I wired the 99 C-Band LNB into the switches

I have a couple 4x1 diseqcs that have port 4 blown out...
I got a life-time supply last Black Friday when SatAV sold 'em for next to nuttin'.
. . . but I also have a bottle of pink or red fingernail polish from the 99¢ store, to mark any bad ports if I choose to keep 'em.
PLUS, they might be fixable if they're really worth $15... but for 50¢, I don't see that happening in my lifetime. - :D

We talked about a diseqc tester in another thread, recently.
It would be interesting to know the failure mode that's most common.
If you're no longer passing power to the port 4 LNB, that's easy to test for...
But if power goes to that LNB, and no signal comes through, that's not something easy to verify in a $5 tester.

no power to it. Tried active lines form other sources and hooked it to that port and nothing

It Works! (Well, sort of)
