One program from 123 W, Daystar, is easily receivable behind double pane window.
I tried to receive some programs from 125 W the same way.
Unfortunately, free programs are weak.
Annotated pictures tell all.

The PBS feeds are designed to be picked up by affiliates, not necessarily home viewers, so no surprise they're weaker than the encrypted feeds designed for home viewers in the Caribbean. When I went to tweak my dish the other day on 125W, I used the 11980 mux to get it close and then the other feeds to narrow it down.

The results you get indoors are impressive though. :)

Tried that once a long time ago, in the winter when I didn't feel like freezing outside. Worked fine using the old dual pane window, but the dish in the middle of the living room was problematic in so many ways... I have since replaced the window with a triple pane with coatings to minimize UV etc... I suspect it blocks RF reasonably well too. Haven't gotten up the courage to try it again though... :)

Trip, the last line in your sig has started an earworm. Might have to get out the record player and move some pictures. :)

My windows to the south are blocked by trees, so mine have to go out in the yard.

That must only work with the lower elevation sats up there, I have tried this with my 36 inch dish with no luck.

Works with a satellite at any elevation. Just need a clear line of sight between the dish and the satellite.

Most modern windows have materials that reflect energy over a wide frequency range and will greatly attenuate the satellite signals passing through. This will limit the number of transponders that you will reliably receive to only the strongest signals. Replacing the glass with a more RF transparent material would provide better signal quality readings while retaining some barrier to the elements.

Satellite reception through windows has been discussed in several threads. A recent example is Wescopc installing a plexiglass window in his new home.
