I have noticed something with Parental Control that when you have PPV LOCKED, you cannot "RENT", "Free" content from Dish on Demand without entering in your password. This is a problem I see since many Free content, that I would allow my young daughter to watch on Nick or Nickjr she cannot, since I have the PPV LOCK enabled. Free content, should be just that! Dish needs to find a way to have a parental switch to allow Free content to be watched based on other Parental Control guidelines that you have established, aka content, ratings, etc. If you don't have any other Parental guidelines established, it should just play without asking for a password.

I hope someone from Dish is listening!!! ;)

They're aren't "free", they cost $0.00. They have a cost, albeit it's nothing in dollars and cents. The way Dish's system currently sees them is that they are PPV and therefore fall under the parental control lock.

They could add in the logic to look at the cost being "<= 0.00" and allow it without a PIN. I suspect the PPV/locks portion of code is older and was created before they had "free" PPVs (?).

No, that shouldn't happen. As I was saying, Dish needs to be able to allow to watch "no cost" content without a password but also keep the Parental Content Lock in place based on content. You would still be subjected to the Ratings Lock that you have established, so if you've locked "R" rated content, then they shouldn't be able to access that movie. However, I've been looking for "no cost" movies, and haven't found any as of yet.

That's putting a lot on the customer in order to set things up "right" !! I agree with the flow though. The software just has to do a series of checks. First, if the cost is "0", check for a ratings lock. If none is set or if the event is below the rating lock (i.e. R rated events require PIN, this even is G or PG), allow it.
