Fox is pulling its Monday 8 p.m. hour block of comedies "Arrested Development" and "Kitchen Confidential" for the rest of the November sweeps and is replacing them with repeats of the drama "Prison Break."

The Emmy-winning "Arrested" is a critics' darling but has underperformed in the ratings during its first two seasons, when it aired on Sunday nights. The move to Monday at 8 p.m. (ET) did little to boost its numbers.

The debuting "Kitchen" also received some favorable reviews but has so far failed to attract a significant audience at 8:30 p.m. Mondays. On Nov. 7 back-to-back episodes of "Arrested" scored a 2.0 rating in adults 18 to 49, according to Nielsen Media Research, tying for fourth place in the 8 p.m. hour with The WB's "7th Heaven."

Neither "Arrested" nor "Kitchen" is expected to receive a back-nine episode order.

Another Grim Development for 'Arrested'
(Friday, November 11 02:01 PM)
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) "Arrested Development" has escaped the cancellation ax through two award-winning but low-rated seasons, but the show's future looks more tenuous than ever now.
Earlier this week, FOX bumped the Emmy-winning "Arrested" (along with its Monday-night mate, "Kitchen Confidential") from its schedule for the remainder of November sweeps. Now comes word that the network has cut the show's episode order from a full season of 22 to 13, which a source close to the show confirms.

The reduced order, and the schedule commitments FOX already has for midseason -- most notably "American Idol" and "24" -- could well mean that "Arrested Development" is on its final legs at FOX. The network hasn't officially said the series is done, but the c-word -- cancellation -- has already popped up in news reports about the reduced order.

But will you get to see it this Monday? In any language the answer is "no." FOX abruptly pulled both "Arrested Development" and "Kitchen Confidential" from the schedule in favor of airing repeats of "Prison Break" in that time slot. Allegedly, both series will return on Dec. 5 but who can be optimistic at this point? Both show's episode orders have been cut to 13 for the season which does not bode well -- at all.
