Ok guys, I am looking for a second receiver to play with and for second TV (have a coolsat 5000 now) and Fortec seems to be quite popular here, but I am having problems understanding their product line (what is release when, what is the newest, olderst etc). I can't seem to find the info on the fortec website other than the Mercury model is the newest?
The lifetime series is especially confusing to me.

So anyways, if I get a fortec, what do you guys recommend? If not a fortec, what else do you guys like?

I have the Fortec Lifetime Classic NA and love it! It is the only receiver Ihave ever used, but it is simple, yet has plenty of advanced features.

I have both a Classic and an Ultra. Both are nice

Classic has a little better menu setup and interface. The Ultra has been known to suffer from "tranponder overload" from scanning too many TP's into the unit and the unit starts doing funky things. You have to delete TP's before continuing. Dont know if the Classic suffers from this (I don't think it does ads I do lots of scanning with it)

Here is Fortec Star's North America recent history for FTA receivers (no pvr or embedded CAS):

Classic
Ultra
Ultra Plus
Classic NA
Mercury II

The Mercury II is my favorite toy at work, but at home the Lifetime Ultra is still the workhorse.

The Ultra is no longer in production, but there are still a few available.

Thanks!

After looking around how come it seems the FTA retailers that sponsor here, seem to deal primarily in fortec stuff?

How often do you guys scan?

How do you keep the tube from bending?
