I am trying to get my Fortec receiver with a Starchoice 32inch oval dish dual LNB. Is this a good combination? So far I haven't been able to get quality. Level is 76%
I am in Vancouver, Canada.
Which settings should I set the receiver (LNB Type, etc) for best reception?
Any hints will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hello and WELCOME to the SatelliteGuys.US FTA forum!

Its all about quality, level means NOTHING.

Set the LNB L.O. setting to 10750 for a Standard LNBF.
You then have to enter the Freq./Polarity/ and SR. of a known LIVE channel or transponder, then SLOWLY move the dish until you see signal quality on the TV, you will really need to be able to see the TV from the dish to point it correctly.

Thanks Pete,
From your response I assume that the Star Choice Antenna and LNBs will work OK.
I know that Galaxy10R can be received from my area and will try to lock on it today.
If you have any tips for this satellite I'll greatly appreciate them.
Thanks again.

Tips would be..... give up on G10R and go for IA-6 (Only kidding IA-6 is my favorite satellite)

For G10R use the below settings, its a LIVE channel or TP.(transponder)

Give us you Latitude and Longitude (or post code) and we can give you ALL the angles to the satellites for your location!

DFreq : 11800 MHz (V) SR : 26.656 Msps

Used Vancouver BC, as its pretty close to you, your true south satellite would be G10R same as your Longitude!

The SC dish will work fine. What does the LNB look like?

You lucked out with G10 as your true south.. :)

and welcome :wave

Thanks for your reply!
The 2 LNBs look like small cans with a 4 inch tube/horn leading to the translucent plastic cap.

What do you mean by lucked out with G10 being my true south?
How does that help me? Excuse my ignorance.....

Thanks

ahh, sounds like the old "beer cans"

the 2 LNB's that look like a "v" and come together to be aimed at the dish?

Reason I said lucky that G10 was your true south is true south is the easiest one to aim for...its straight south :)

Yes, they look like small beer cans with one coax cable out each and a rubber boot that covers that end.
So I just have to aim straight South and that should do the trick?
Do I have to consider any magnetic deviation?

Thanks again..

Take a look at the chart printed out above. It shows you that the true direction is 180 (south), but the magnetic heading is 160.5. So yes, if you are using a compass, you have to take into account a significant magnetic deviation of almost 20 degrees!

Crap that’s right….Forgot about the magnetic deviation

In MN true south is straight south :D

If you are behind the dish aiming, use the “left” beer can : )

Once again, thanks for all these pearls of wisdom. It will make my job a lot easier this evening as long as it doesn't rain!, which in Vancouver is a given.
I'll post the results tomorrow.

Cheers

Good luck. Its a real thrill once you get it. You are going to really want a motor if you don't already have one. With a motor, once you find your first satellite, the rest become easy if you installed the mount and motor right.

I would get a motor, but there is a row of tree that blocks my view approximately between 145 and 235 degrees (rough compass measurement)
So I'm not sure how beneficial the motor would be.

Before I forget, I am new to this forum, but I have to say that this is the most friendly and helpful bunch of guys I have ever found online! :hatsoff:

One more question:
Is there a way to find out which satellites (FTA) transmit Univision other than Galaxy 10R just in case I can't get teh signal? :thanks:
