You can do a soft reboot by holding the power button in on the front of the 811 for several seconds. Once it shuts off it will acquire channels and refresh the EPG.
Listen to Simon definetely, he fixed my 811 yesterday and it was having the exact same problem, "locking up when trying to download the guide."

However, Erik's problem was that his DPP-Twin (on a D1000) was locking up. Pulled the feed cables on both receivers (drop power to the LNB) to force the LNB to reset.
First time I ran into that with a DPP-Twin, but I'm not surprised - I've seen it happen with most other DishPro switches (external or internal to the LNB).
