From a newbie still learning the lingo: I have a legacy 500 dish with a twin LNB and SW21 feeding a 311 receiver. I live in San Diego and have good signal strength on 119 spotbeams but poor on transponder 15. The signal varies from 20 to 0. I have really clear LOS after cutting down two trees (likely not part of the problem). The system worked fine with no problems noticed until last two months. Receiver checked good on a friends dish setup. Suggestions appreciated. :)

Could be the 21 switch or the lnbf but if you have a twin lnb you shouldn't need the 21 switch perhaps you have two single or dual lnb's feeding into the 21 switch.A pic would be helpful. A twin lnb would be a single housing that covers two orbital locations with only two outputs. the switch is already built into the lnb. Two dual or single lnb's and a 21switch isn't the ideal setup for a 311 receiver,in my opinion. If you're handy replace the old lnb and switch setup with a dishpro twin lnb. Buy it through the dishstore.net. If that doesn't fix the problem, then you could also have bad cabling or wallplates(if present). When you say "checked good on a friends dish setup". what signal strengths were you getting there? Could just be that your signals are a little weak.

hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. Based on your help, I now know that I have two dual LNBs feeding the SW21. When I checked the 311 at a friend's it registered around 30, as I recall. I checked The Dish Store and they have a Dishpro twin and a Dishpro Plus twin ...which do you recommend? I don't think it is the cabling because I bought a 25' section with fittings from the local Dish store for troubleshooting and still have the same problem. One more question - if I use a Dishpro twin, will I need a SW21? Would try to send a photo but it is pouring in SD now (which is a rare sight for us)! :)

I have taken the advice of Mr. Carter and ordered a dish pro plus twon lnb to attempt to resolve my weak signal problem . Can someone please confirm that the DPP twin has a built in switch so all I need to do is run the coax from it to the 311 to receive 110 and 119 satellites. Thanks. :)
