flat antenna, anyone ever try one?

I was watching the Travel channel today and saw something like this.

Phased-Array antenna for DTV/Dish network.

So has anyone tried one of these and any idea what it would take to make. I might have to go to the lib and checkout the ARRL Antenna handbook.

I used to use one in the 90's in the UK for the BSB satellite service, I later modified it to receive the French satellites, it looked neat but it never did seem to collect as much signal as the 12" Dish that was later used. I am sure as the satellites become more powerful we will be seeing a lot more flat antenna, they look great!

Well, with the price ten times or more then the regular 18" round dish right now, I would not invest into this yet.
