SatelliteGuys.US is proud to keep it's ear to the ground looking for the latest news and information from the world of Satellite TV.

Over a month ago we first mentioned to our supporting Pub Members the new Dish 500+ and Dish 1000+ which is a new dish which will pick up the new 118.7 KU Satellite.

Today we are proud to give you another FIRST LOOK of the future as today we give you a FIRST LOOK of the new Dish 500+, Dish 1000+ and Dish 1000.2 Satellite Dishes!

The Dish 500+ Dish

THE DISH 1000+
dish1000plus.jpg

While named the Dish 500+ and Dish 1000+ it appears that both dishes are the same, and if you wanted to upgrade to a Dish 1000+ from a Dish 500+ all you would need to do is add a Dish 1000 Bracket and a Dish Pro Single or Dual LNB.

The Dish 500+ Dish 1000+ both use Dishpro technolgy and require that you use them with a switch. Note that on a Dish 500+ you can use a DP34 or DPP44 (DishPro Plus) switch. On a Dish 1000+ setup you MUST use it in conjunction with a DishPro Plus 44 Switch.

The new LNB is a FSS/DBS Dual Band LNBF which receives signals from the new 118.7 FSS orbital location and the 119 DBS orbital location.

The following receivers will not support the 118.7 orbital location: 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, JVC-DVHS and the Dishplayer 7100/7200 receivers.

For those of you with a 121 SuperDISH you will be able to turn it into a Dish 500+ or Dish 1000+ by using a special DP 500+ Re-Point Kit (and for a Dish 1000+ they would need the Dish 1000+ bracket and Dish Pro Dual or Single LNB.

To upgrade your 121 SuperDISH you need to remove the existing LNB assembly and shoud and attach the DP 500+ or DP 1000+ LNB Assembly. You would use the same peeking angles as you would for the Dish 500+ or the Dish 1000+.

There is no mention on how to convert a 105 SuperDISH to a Dish 500+ or Dish 1000+.

The NEW Dish 1000.2
dish1000.2.jpg

The new Dish 1000.2 is almost just like the current Dish 1000, it still only picks up 110, 119 and 129. The dish is the same size, however the mast is slightly longer then the current DISH 1000.

Note that W brackets on the Dish 1000 and Dish 1000.2 are NOT interchangable.

The following receivers do not support the 129 orbital location, 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000 JVR-DVHS and the Dishlayer 7100/7200.

UPDATED 4:00PM EST
I have updated this with further information which was sent to me. This appears to be from Echostar, so I must thank them for the information. :)

Awesome information Scott!

Now they need to release the DPP64, how the heck am I supposed to add in 61.5 and 148 to this setup :)

No new switches are coming out (at least this year) so the DPP44 will be the way to go for now if you want Dish 1000 Plus and 61.5 or 148.

Remember the 118.7 and 119 are combined together so its not using up extra space on the switch.

I would think the procedure would be the same, if you remove the SuperDish LNBF assembly what's left is pretty much identical. The 121 folks would have one less DishPro LNBF left over to reuse though.

Why is there a 1000.2? Why put out a dish that does not support 118.7?

I was wondering that myself.

I have a feeling the only thing on 118.7 will be HD and maybe some foriegns. So not everyone wil need a plus Dish.

Who knows, they said in their filing that they would use it for LIL, HD and Internationals.

It could be quite possible that when HGTV HD and Starz HD launch they would be found only on 118.7. (Of course this is 100% speculation)

Another SatelliteGuys first! Great stuff, but the $64,000 question remains...why do we need a Dish500/1000+ Expecting to read another SatelliteGuys first by noon.
This is my question as well. I have a Dish 500 and one for 61.5. Why will I need the new hardware?

Oh, if they launch new national HD's on there and I have to get a new dish after only 2 months - I will be ALL kinds of jacked up.

Hopefully that is only speculation Scott! :D

when to go from 1000 to 1000+ ?

I previously paid for a 1000 for my 942, I just ordered a 622 and was told I had to spend 99 to install a 1000, which I already have. If I wait till the 1000+ are out do you think the 99 would get me a 1000+. I can see it now I will be paying $99 in September or something if I want to keep Voom or some nonsense.

Any predictions? More HD is a good thing, I just want to do it effeciently.

If currently using a Dish Pro Twin for 110/119 and 61.5 will one need a switch to change the Dish 500 to a Dish 500+?

Or will the Dish 500+ connect easily to 61.5 the same way?

CDH.

Ok the Dish 1000 is 23.5"w x 18.5H
The new Dish 1000.2 is bigger at 25.9"w x 20.7"H

The line that threw me off about the size was one that said...

"Mast is slightly linger then DISH 1000, but has same outside diameter."

Have DN and just got a HDTV, what do I need?
