firmware upgrades from Satellite

Hi! Do firmware upgrades from satellite actually work? I have a Traxis DVB-3500 and have the option in the menu for updates from satellite, but I have no clue which satellite to get them from and or if they even work successfully when downloading them off the satellite. And also are they up-to-date when you get them off the satellites? Thanks, Chad
