How well does the FiOs router/modem that they give you work with a home network with one of your PCs set up as a server?

Are there issues with communication between the devices?

Would it be better to hook up a stand alone router to their modem/router and turn off their router features? If so, can you turn off the router on their modem?

Does hooking up an external router with their modem compromise their network speed?

If I were to get their TV, does the router need to be enabled?

If their are any FiOs people who can answer, it will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

This might not help you, but I just added a faster "n" router to my Siemens dsl modem/router to help with Sling adapter streaming. This really works good, does not change internet speed. This does turn off the Siemens router.By the way, I can remember going to the LA Colosseum) and watching Wally Moon yank em out down the short left line.

I currently have an Arris modem (no built in router) with TWC and an external router that I use for my home-network. There are no issues with compatibility since the modem is not a router. I was just curious if an external router will create problems for a network when hooked up to another modem with an internal router

I intended to replace my Fios router with aftermarket. But it works quite well for me, so I haven't. If you use the Fios TV service, you'll have to keep the router, but you can always add a better one downstream. Just be sure you only have one DHCP provider. Some complain about limited distance with the wireless feature, but mine is more than good enough. YMMV.

Called TWC to cancel my home phone because today my porting officially went through for my Ooma. When I was on the phone I told the guy I was thinking of switching to FiOS. He then offered me my same $50/month internet plan for $30/month for 12 months. With $35 being taken off due to my phone cancellation, the $3 phone protection being removed, and the extra $20 off my internet, I will now be saving $58/month for phone and internet. Because of this I will stick with TWC for another year and not switch to FiOs.

Plus when I talked to FiOs yesterday about an internet and TV bundle, in order for me to get the same channels I am now getting with DirecTV I would have to go with their Extreme HD for $75/month (no MLB channel on the Prime HD) and that is $10 more a month than what I am paying for DirecTV package. And this price does not include the receiver. Their price is package only, the primary receiver is an additional fee (unlike Direct and Dish which include the primary receiver as part of the package). For an HD DVR in one room only it will cost and additional $16. Even with the bundle deal they offered, FiOs TV and Internet will be much more than DirecTV and TWC internet. So I will stick with what I have for at least another year.
