Well, I finally broke down and called the Concessions dept and ordered my 4k equipment ... I figured now with the NFL being in 4k, a few games anyways, more will follow I hope.

The first few times I called D* directly and they continued to ONLY want to give me the HS17, which I refused. Eventually they hung up on me when I explained what I desired.

So, now that I contacted them via a different route, I may be getting some where ...

I will be giving up my HR44 (which has been GREAT every step of the way ....

I'm presuming the HR54 will be basically the same unit with the ability to use the C61k client for my 4k.
Is there a newer 4k client yet ?

I'd rather see a actual rercvr that does 4k and dvr, but that doesn't look likely any time in the future ...

She kept mentioning the HR54, so thats good, but she also mentioned a Genie Mini 4k, is that the Client I need to get the 4k portion ?

Btw, they will be on the same TV.

Any thoughts or advice ?

4K Genie Mini - F&F Coverage

What is F& F Coverage ?

Well the install went as expected ...
I now have a HR54 instead of the HR44 and a new c61k client ... (which I think I will only use when I want to see 4k).

Waiting on the ON Demand and guide to populate enough to put all my Series Links in ...

For some reason, my 4k channels when I go to them, say they are not authorized ...

The Installer said to give it 24 hours ...

Is that normal ?
The 4k has nothing to do with the Internet, I don't understand why they don't work right away.

You would think by now they would have a way to transfer your Series Links thru the website by now. (Recordings too)...

I did call in and they reset my authorization on all channels and confirmed that 4k IS on my account.

Not normal and does sound like you don’t have 4K correctly on your account

So, do I call them yet again ?

Or maybe try re authorizing thru the web site ...
Nothing wrong with trying to do it through the website again but yeh I would call again

It is also entirely possible with the wonderful new ATT system it may take overnight for the authorization to process on there end

Hey guys. I have been looking at site for a while so it was time to register. This website is just awesome with all the information it contains. If this question has been asked before I feel like an idiot for not searching for it. I just wanted to confirm that can your account have other DVR's if you get a HR-54?. I have 3 other DVR's, (HR-24, HR20, & HR21) on 3 separate tv's and even they are old and slow work great. I just want to dump the HR-20 and use the HR-54 & client. Since the SWM dish only has 8 tuners? so another SWM dish will need to be installed. I really don't want to use clients on those tv's just my 4k set. I can get the receiver on-line and install it myself and not have a DirecTV installer coming over.

Sorry if this have been answered before but I have seen conflicting answers.

I kinda want 4K for the NFL, too, but, like Jimbo, it would be all on the same TV and I really don't want to pay for a receiver to watch 1 channel and the occasional game.

It depends on what your package was when you signed up .... Mine was an all inclusive I think with 4 recvrs.
I dropped a HR24 earlier so it freed up a spot on that order, so the extra C61k, doesn't really cost me anything.
I now am using HR54, C61k and 2 other HR24's.

Welcome to the Site !

If you get an HR54, YES, you can keep your other recvrs (HR's), I would personally update the HR20 and 21 that you have to either a HR24 or 25. (I don't think the 25's are recorders, so you might want to skip that one) You can only have 1 Genie (HR44, 54, on the account) ... get your C61k client for your 4k usage ... That does count as a recvr.

Also, you really DON'T want to get them online.

Order it from D* and THEY will foot the bill.
They will get you the recvrs, as well as the Reverse Band LNB on thier bill.

Hey guys,
Did I screw up ?
You can use a AM21 with the HR54's, right ?

The OTA portion isn't showing up in the menus ...
I think I found I have No Power to my AM21 now (which would be why I am not seeing the OTA set up in the Menus.)

I checked and I do still have the usb cable from the HR54 to the USB on the AM 21 ... not sure why I have no power at this point.

edit:
I found out that you have to supply power from an outlet instead of the HR54's USB now ...
Found a power cord and trying to load now.

Glad you brought up the reverse LNB I completely forgot about that. Ordering from DirecTV is the route I am going to go Those 54's are not cheap so your right let them pay. I have been a customer since 1996 so they should set me up at no cost..

When you call in, let them know that you have at least 1 4k TV ... and would like to finally get updated to be able to watch 4k on D* ...
I know when I called they asked me several times to confirm I had a 4k TV (they probably would have given me a different client if I hadn't had a 4k tv) but I also would not have updated at this point had I not.

Once I got ahold of the right people, everything went very easily ... however it did take several tries originally.

Interesting Jimbo. You've been here a long time so I listen. I've thought about trying 4K, but although the upgrade would be free, I don't want to sign up for another two years. I'm probably going to bail this week after 22 years at the end of my three-week trial with YouTube TV. I need no boxes for my LG OLED and old Rokus will work for my other sets, The PQ seems better, Cloud DVR works great, and Guide is great. All my locals so I can ditch the AM-21. Was holding out for the new Internet fed box and an LCC but I just don't see that happening soon. Four days to decide. Hoping they might let me suspend for a few months. Not liking the rumors AT&T may dump DirecTV either.

You can always suspend your service, I'm thinking people do that quite often to see if other services work for them...
As for ATT dumping D* ... people scream because ATT owns them now ... nothing official as to who it might go to ...
However, I think it will be quite awhile before its actually Not Owned by ATT ... after all it took over a year to purchase it.
