Well, I finally pieced together a system.

Got a CoolSat 5000 and invacom LNB on ebay a while ago when prices plumetted. (got both for $60 shipped)

I was just waiting to get a dish. I just didn't want to buy one and pay the shipping when I knew I would eventually find one around me. Sure enough, city trash day (the semi-annual ones) came along and on the way to work I saw two dishes: a primestar and a Fortec. Stopped grabbed the fortec (90cm btw) and almost got the primestar till I saw it was bullet riddled.
The fortec was in almost new condition except for sun fade. I was so excited.

(I'll abridge the install activites)
Got home and had some extra coax and ran down to lowes and got a pole for the yard. Got everything setup and aligned. (whole setup took about 2 hours IIRC) but I just ran the coax on the ground for now, bury it later. Then the big test.... did I do it right?

YEP!!! WOO HOOOO!!!!!!

I only have a stationary setup now, but I am hitting IA5 and did a blind scan... VIOLA! Channels!

I am so eager to move over to G10 and some others to test signal then I just gotta order a motor before winter. :)

Anyways, I learned alot here from you guys and I just wanted to say thanks. The list is long so I won't take the time to name individuals. :)
I look forward to advancing to a motor setup and possibly a second receiver down the road when I convince the wife. :)

I got a coolsat 5000 and am in Cal. trying to get IA5 and no luck. Can you share what are your screen set ups for the IA5, thanks a bunch.

welcome to the FTA family Satinkzo

wish I could find a FTA dish on junk day...all I ever got were Dish500's and DirecTv singles

Yeah, I felt pretty darn lucky. I think it was a house that just sold a month or so earlier and the new owners didn't want dishes in the yard.

Seems all I find around the immediate neighborhood is Phase III DTV's... USELESS! We hardly ever get snow here, and there are no hills, so can't even use them as sleds! :D

Free stuff, sweet!

Anyone stop to wonder what the story is behind the bullet-riddled Primestar dish? I'm sure it was just generic target practice, but in my mind I can't help but envisioning a wife at the brink due to her husband's constant attention to tweaking his FTA setup. In a rage (and with a good degree of accuracy), she heads outside and shoots up the dish with the revolver they keep hidden in the closet.

After bailing his wife out of jail, the husband realizes his obsession with FTA is killing his marriage, so he rips both dishes down and throws them in the back lane  ;)
