Finally Got That Soc. Sec. Scam Call

Was feeling left out of the scam victim's calling list until yesterday. Received a robo-voice mail saying my Social Security account was suspended due to suspicious activity and I should call back to rectify.

Yeah, sure.... Hit the #7 delete button.

Some days my phone is stone dead, other days it's ringing off the wall with all sorts landline loonies trying to extract $$ one way or another .

It is so bad I don't carry my phone anymore. Check messages at the end of the day and that's it.

I've had scam calls from various claims. The IRS scam, Microsoft Tech support scam, winning a vacation scam, Diabetic Depot scam, and others. But I just waste their time when they call.

There is a Student Loans scam I've been getting that is a extremely well polished presentation with an American English speaking voice, no accent. Easy choice for me, I never had a student loan

Oh yeah. Forgot about those. I've gotten those calls too.

Also, it's kinda funny that the ones that claim to be "Microsoft Tech Support" would call me since I have a Mac without any kind of Windows on either on Bootcamp or Parallels on it. (However, I do plan to get Windows on it someday.). Even if I did have Windows on my computer there's no way that tech support would call me first. Anybody that believes they'd call first is a complete moron.

I had one call me with the Microsoft support scam. I went all in with him for the first few minutes and let him get ALL of his explaining out...then I started with "hey...how much is this scam gonna cost me?"...he argued it wasn't a scam...
When I told him that I didn't have a PC running any Microsoft programs, and that I was a Linux user running Ubuntu and SuSe....he was lost. He had NO clue what linux was..
So finally, after he adamantly claimed it absolutely WAS NOT a scam, I told him to give me a serial number from my PC if he was so legitimate.
He started naming off some numbers..and it went like this (also, imagine a thick Indian accent)
"Ok sir, your device ID is 192 period 168 period 1 period 34"...
I quickly responded with "that's a F&*KING APIPA address you moronic piece of {adjective goes here}...."

He quickly hung up.
So now, when I get calls, I tell them my new phone number is the number of the scam person in this particular Microsoft support crap.

I wonder how effective being on the "Do Not Call" list really is. All my phones are registered with them.

Lots of spoofing calls lately, one caller ID was the same number as my phone. Guess I was calling myself and didn't even know it.

It is as effective as the new law that was passed making it illegal to spoof the caller ID.

The one I have been getting lately tells me I bought a vacation years ago at a discount and never took it, and they will be glad to rebook me for a "small fee". And if I don't they will "charge my credit card on file for the full cost of the previous vacation." Which I ask them then what is my credit card number, which they cannot give.

Thing is they spoof towns in my state. I have traveled statewide and know every place. Some of the places they spoof are so small they literally might have 200 people still on that land line exchange. None of whom are Indian.

I spend some time in Nicaragua and have received the same calls down there, spoofed to be from other towns in Nicaragua. Which every person except one, whose number I know, I deal with has a US or Canadian cell phone number, not a Central American one. And there are no Indians in Nicaragua either. At least not that kind.

Aint it great to be in a period of time where we actually know they are trying to scam, and can turn the tables? I like to waste as much of their time as I can. Tell me that story...wait, I didn't get it all..tell me again...
Especially the computer ones...I let them talk for 15 minutes, then I tell them that I have a windows 98 computer without any internet...or that I don't own a computer.

Most of these calls come from numbers that are flagged 'Out of Area.' I have a Digitone Pro Series Blocker on my land line that will not pass through one of those calls. No ring, no nothing. It's a godsend!

These scammers are reaching new lows as human beings. Since I won't answer the phone, they now use my number to spoof as the calling number. Now I have all kinds of idiots calling me. Yes the telephone is extinct.

Unfortunately, I get must answer calls from out of area, and "number withheld" or some such.

Today I got a call about my Google Business account.....

About 6 months ago I started answering them and laying a cussing on them that would make even a sailor blush. Usually the calls stop for a few days when I use that one.
