Final rule on digital television converter box coupon program

There has been a final ruling on the digital television converter box coupon program. I really dont think the united states government understands the magnitude of changing to digital broadcast television and not thoroughly getting the information out.

Interesting that the "BOX" cannot have any type of integrated video display or recording capability (no DVR's qualify) and cannot have HDMI, DVI, Component, VGA, firewire, ethernet or wireless internet outputs.

From what i have read the coupon approved set top box will be only 480i

Given the target market for this box I would not expect it to be better than 480i or have many bells and whistles.

There is a stb named "tivax" that is only 480i resolution.
the cost is presently around 150.00 dollars.

Interesting box the "tivax". It has componet outputs but I will asume it's 480i only as the tivax web site does not say otherwise. There were a few SD ED sets built that would benefit if it output 480p. If it's just meant for 480i sets than for the bells and whistles price it's a little much for the $50.00 coupon. I only paid $160.00 for my Samsung sir-t351 and that's a full HD unit with 480i out
