ORLANDO--FiberNet, a fiber optic wholesaler focused in New York City, today announced a new subsidiary and a new initiative. Availius will focus on providing custom network and infrastructure solutions for service providers, particularly international companies looking to do additional business in the U.S.
The new unit expands FiberNet’s traditional Network Solutions business, creating dedicated resources through the new subsidiary, said John Dowd, vice president of business development.
“This unit will draw on FiberNet’s expertise in setting up and managing collocation space,” he said. “It will cast that experience onto our customers.”
The unit is aimed at CLECs, long-haul providers who want local connections and international carriers.
Availius will manage services for its customers going forward, in addition to helping to acquire and equip colo space.
“Many of them don’t have the resources, or don’t have the resources here,” Dowd said.
By creating a separate company, FiberNet wants to show the market that it is dedicating resources to this venture as opposed to offering it as an adjunct to its existing business, Dowd added.
