Now if the citizens of Louisiana/New Orleans are smart - they'll run both the Mayor and the Governor out of the state on a rail. Incompetence in those positions can be deadly. Even if the death toll (hopefully) is radically less than originally feared, the potential is still there.

Another good idea might be to look beyond the field of lawyers  available and tap someone with valuable experience to head FEMA. It is a coordinating/response agency that requires massive mobilization of assets and tapping a variety of federal resources. Look at the US Army and tap someone that's commanded a Supply Division and has actually planned and implemented a massive mobilization effort of assets. That knowledge of logistics is much more valuable than some state head of emergency preparedness that may or may not have any real experience with a major disaster.

... and certainly more valuable than the experience a lawyer brings to the table.

“Other challenges and threats remain around the world,” and Brown is needed to prepare for those, Chertoff said at a news conference in Baton Rouge

If the above is the case, we are in deep sh***t with this guy in charge...

Yes, but unfortunately these derelicts are at the top of their respective political heaps and will offer up multiple subordinates before their heads get placed on the chopping block. I fully expect that Mr. Brown's will submit his resignation to the President next week...or be fired.

But the **PEOPLE** of those areas will have the opportunity to have their voices heard at the ballot box. Now hopefully the loyal opposition will put up decent folks, and these folks that failed miserably will be voted out.

That goes for everyone, from local folks to GWB.

It's amazing that the Mayor has fallen under the protection of the Democratic spin machine despite actually being a Republican.

Top Phony GWB

Now we could just get rid of the top Phony GWB things would get much better :yes

Sorry, but after this screw-up GWB may be the Gulf's best friend. I think the President will go to extraodinary lengths to see that rebuilding and flood prevention efforts are fully funded. I would be very surprised to see this Administration not support a new levy system for the city of New Orleans. We shall see.

Yeah, I know, but the Republicans will take a black eye from this fiasco.

Republicans will suffer no ill-effects from this at all. The Dems are radically stretching reality in order to stick any blame directly to GWB. No chance that this will cause any trickle down harm to any House/Senate race.

If instead of the mindless knee-jerk reaction they have to every single issue (blame Bush) maybe they should try a new strategy and actually come up with a plan to fix our local/state/federal response and coordination. Then incorporate that plan into their platform. Political jabs offer a small amount of political instant gratification - but they have no legs and sure as hell won't win any elections.....especially when the target of all your efforts is not running for anything.

The black eyes belong to the murderers of those people. Blanco and Nagin.

Everybody is innocent until proven guilty!
Especially you, who acts like representing the whole USA - as selfappointed spokesperson should know this - having a different opinion is one thing - respecting other's is something you might most kindly take a look into !
