FCC has granted permission to move SBS 6 to a disposal orbit

This satellite certainly saw much FTA service during its lifetime(mostly at 74w).

Yup we use to uplink the Tech Talk Network and the W0KIE Network to SBS 6.

Those were the days.

They had been planning to move SBS 6 to 77 degrees West to replace Galaxy 4R which is supposed to be de-orbited soon. I guess SBS 6 ran out of fuel sooner than they had planned and they withdrew the request.

That's certainly one way to "dispose" of it! Nice. As long as it would not affect any other of our precious satellites! Would hate to lose more FTA!

The Russian satellite was in low earth orbit about 485 miles. Our FTA satellites are at least 22,000 miles higher than that.

i was getting a lot of wild feed from that sbs6 sat that interesting to me and now where might those wild feeds go, or is it just moving orbit or is out of sevice

It is out of service but Horizons 2 it currently at 74W.

SBS 6 was launched on October 12, 1990. It provided many years of reliable service.

Sorry to see it go, although it has been replaced by another bird. It lived a long and useful life!
