WASHINGTON—Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler announced today the members of an inter-bureau steering committee and the working team leaders established to coordinate the agency’s review of merger applications from Comcast-Time Warner Cable-Charter and AT&T-DirecTV.

Jonathan Sallet, general counsel, will chair the steering committee that will oversee both sets of transactions. Bureau chiefs on the steering committee include Media Bureau Chief Bill Lake, International Bureau Chief Mindel de la Torre, Wireline Competition Bureau Chief Julie Veach, and Wireless Telecommunications Bureau Chief Roger Sherman.

Jamillia Ferris will join the Office of General Counsel to lead the working team for the review of the proposed AT&T-DirecTV transaction. Elizabeth Andrion from the Office of Strategic Planning & Policy Analysis will serve as her deputy.

Ferris comes to the FCC from private practice, and from 2010-13 served in the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division as deputy chief of staff, and then chief of staff and counsel to the assistant attorney general of the Antitrust Division. The AT&T-DirecTV working team will report to the steering committee.

Merger hawk on FCC review board for AT&T-DirecTV, Comcast-TWC deals
The FCC has named William Rogerson as part of the team that will review the Comcast (CMCSA)- Time Warner Cable (TWC) and AT&T (T) - DirecTV (DTV) mergers.
Rogerson is considered a bit of a merger hawk after being a gadfly during the Comcast-NBCUniversal combination.
Some analysts think the composition of the board as a whole will lead to a tough review process for the media giants. http://seekingalpha.com/news/183358...-board-for-at-and-t-directv-comcast-twc-deals

I bet AT&T/DIRECTV is not happy being lumped in with the Comcast/TWC deal. AT&T/DIRECTV would probably have minimal issues if it was on its own. Now it is part of a conspiracy to take over the consumer TV...

Isn't it though? No one wants to compete anymore. Now they will just buy their viewership. I know there may be another way to see it, but that's just my outlook on it. It makes me think of the Yankees.

If the merger is denied. You would think it would go back to being business as usual.

Unless there are problems not known or evident in the financial reports, I would also think just back to business as usual. There does seem to be a lot of chatter about the future of Sunday Ticket. Most likely it is exactly that, chatter, but losing it or losing it as an exclusive does change the landscape. At&t could decide against the merger, and those who are with Direct TV only for Sunday Ticket could start to look around. How many that is I have no idea.
