This year sure has flown by, hasn’t it? This is the first year in a long time when practically everyone feels good about being out and about. There may be some health concerns in the months to come, but that’s a problem for tomorrow, right? Today the weather is pretty good, and maybe you might have an extra person or two around the house this weekend. Why not take a crack at some of those outdoor tasks you’ve been putting off all summer?
Although, let’s be honest. The barbecue probably does need cleaning. But that’s not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about inspecting all your outdoor cables for corrosion, checking the aim on your antenna, seeing if your cellular booster antenna is up high enough… all the things that you swore you would do all summer, but you didn’t.
It’s also time to do the grounding project that you said you would do. Every quarter I urge folks to go to their local city hall and get a copy of local grounding and electrical ordinances. Even if you can’t do that, try to do some grounding. Even if you just connect a ground wire to a cold water pipe and connect the other end to the tallest piece of metal on your house, it’s something. Something is better than nothing, even if it’s not perfect.
Of course, don’t forget the satellite dish. It’s true, your dish isn’t your only connection to entertainment anymore. With DIRECTV SignalSaver you will automatically switch to streaming if the dish fails temporarily. But, you really should keep that dish in good shape.
You may not be able to aim it yourself but at least you can check to see that the connections look good and that there aren’t any trees that could sag due to the weight of snow and block the dish’s view of the sky. If you find out now, there’s still time to do some trimming before the icy season starts.
With friends around the job will be safer and easier and will get done even faster. So why not take just a few minutes to get everything done?
I promise that the job won’t take long at all and you’ll be back to enjoying the fall weather in no time. You’ll even look like a hero to your friends and family. When the colder days of winter come, you’ll be very glad you did.
