External hard drive??

So looking at getting a External Hard Drive for my HR24DVR what drives seem to work well with the units? I always been a fan of the Seagate Free Agent.. Now some quick questions can you move any of the current movies you have recorded over to the External Drive onces it's hooked up? Also does Direct charge a activation fee?? Thanks for the input..

There is no fee but if you hook up a external drive that overrides the internal one. Directv's EHD option doesnt work like Dish's as in you cant copy stuff from internal to external

Im using the thermaltake blacx dock with a seagate green drive, 2TB. Been working fine for 5 months on the HR34, recording 5 things at once.

I've never understood why they don't allow it. I'd guess they would have to rewrite some code for it.

i am using this with my HR24-500 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004K50V1E/ref=ox_ya_os_product with a western digital black 2TB. been running fine for couple of months so far. only downside is when you have power outage you have to sync them back up again, at least in my case. when it reboots it wants to go to the internal drive automatically.

The few times I have lost power my ehd reboots normally. It is odd that yours doesn't hclarkjr.

thankfully i do not lose power a lot where i live, pretty consistent power where i live. knock on wood
