Need some help with the following: (Sat 101)
It all started when FOXNEWS changed transponders about 2 months ago. I have always been able to get most stations in the Dominican Republic (Puerto Plata area). NOW many stations (IE HBO ETC) have recently changed to the EVEN Transponders that we are having trouble with (described below)
1. We have changed the cable to a new RG6 purchased in the US.
2. We have changed the box from the old RCA to a newer Samsung
3. We have repositioned the dish and reaimed it with a satellite finder.
4. We have purchased and changed the LNB. (Single LNB with a 6 foot
round dish)
5. ALL the odd transponders come in just fine.
6. The EVEN transponders 2 and 10 come in with a signal of 93-95 BUT ALL
THE OTHER EVEN TRANSPONDERS ARE ZERO (Searching for Signal)
7. We realize that there is NO signal on Transponder 4-12-18-20-26 and 28
since they are spots.....
OUR PROBLEM IS THAT WE CANNOT GET SIGNAL ON 6-8-14-16-22-24-30 AND 32..................AND CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHY!!!!!
ANY HELP GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!

How long is your cable? A loss of even TPs means that the 18v signal from the receiver to the LNB is getting attenuated so that the LNB doesn't switch consistently.

It might be because I dunno, it probably went to spotbeam or, well, maybe because you don't live anywhere near inside the U.S., perhaps actually using a company that actually broadcasts in _your_ area would be more befitting, and legal.

correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it illegal to try to get D* service outside of the US?

You might get more help by not yelling at people...

If I had to guess you are out of the footprint of the bird providing the transponders. Much like the California and Florida BellExpressVU users on the 82W position. Some TP's can be seen some can't due to the different footprints of the two birds at 82W.

There use to be two satellites covering each slot. One transmitted even and the other transmitted odd. That is why some people had higher odd or even transponder signals. I have not checked the new satellites, but I think some slots went to using one satellite for both odd and even transponders. They could still use different antennas on the same satellite which could yield the same effect as using two satellites.

The most obvious question is, if you are having this problem, everyone around should also have this same problem. Have you asked around?

If you have at least one good even transponder, your equipment is fine. It is VERY VERY rare to have a problem that affects all but a couple transponders.

As said above, check around. If you lost it try a bigger dish. IF it has gone spot though, you are most definitely way too far out to get that. As an FYI the D* birds have HIGHLY accurate footprints.

keep it simple...try checking the connectors for a stray wire from the ground braid or loose foil touching the center conductor. It only takes a fraction to disrupt the signal. also look for wire with a very sharp bend in it, look for a staple in the line if it is stapled along it's path. last resort...use a meter on the wire and see how close it is to 75 ohms as it is advertised.
