ESPN HDLITE

110?

Looks like DISH is bit-starving the Cleveland-Chicago game.
When will the madness end?

Are you getting it on 110? If you are then you should look at the thread ESPN looks worse. It's aproblem other than bit staring. Those of us that look at it on other birds are see those problems.

I do. I'd like to hear your report from multiple sources. NFL Network on 129 looks awful on a regular basis as well.

I think I may have gone over this is other thread but here goes. I get ESPN off 72.7 tp 13 SS is in the 50's most of the time. Have yet to see it have problems but those that are getting it off 110 seem to lately be getting constant problems. ESPN NEWS is coming from 129 tp 28 SS mid 70's & ESPN2 from 129 tp30 SS low 70's. Now haven't looked at NFL (total access) but will try. I ddn't even know if I got the channel or not I'm not into sports. It's the same tp as ESPN2. Whenever any of these have come up about they look terrible I haven't been able to see any problems with them. They have all been spot on and NO pixelization looking a BB game tween Miami & Lakers now and with the exception of the fact that the deep blacks (in the crowd) are a little bit muddy (probably due to 2 things the lighting & 720p) It looks great; it's the lighting & camera lens they are using can't define the back ground. Which is OK no one really gives a S**t about the crowd, you want to see the players & ball.

What is your screen size and viewing distance. I don't think I have ever seen a good PQ NBA game on ESPN.

Had a feeling

That pretty much explains it. Sitting that far away most of the "problems" with Dish PQ will not be visible on that size screen at that distance.

I sit 10ft from a 57".

Dish is perfect on my 32" and 9ft. :)

I had I feeling that is what you were trying to come up with. I do see problems on other channels like right now my OTA local PBS sat is having pixelation problems. Q's I've been answering has to do w/pixelation not if I have a set that is large enuff to see the problems w/ resolution of different sized sets. Also what type of set is the 57" set? So is it a DLP or an LCD?

RP CRT.

It's all about the size and viewing distance relationship. At 15ft Dish looks almost almost flawless on the 57". :)

I'm not saying you don't see problems, just that some may be less obvious depending on the type of issue and severity.

Is that a Mitsubishi 57'? I used to delivery those & they weigh a ton. They are also hard to calibrate. If it is it is a 1080i set with about 2 generations back before mine was made scalar.

Nope, a Sony, with recent full cal and cleaning.

Sure it weighs a ton, but my floor doesn't seem to mind. :)

How old is this set? I didn't thin anyone made RP CRT HDTV models anymore. I sure can't find it on Sony's website.

No, it is not new by any means. Bought it in 2004 and still has fabulous picture. For what I'd have to pay to get as good a picture at that size it is currently not worth it.

But like the panny plasmas.

Most likely it is a Sony KP-57WV600. For it's day it was good but the scalar is really out of date and so will show many more problems than recent units. Hope that you can in the not too distant future go to a better set in that size. I like the plasma's for the same reason as I liked CRT's "truest" blacks out there. The contrast ratio on plasma is much better than the CRT's. LED units are getting a lot closer to good blacks and the future OLED's will be really good but both of the later are very expensive. So for me good plasma's still are the standard to be measured by. I could've afforded a larger set but I looked at the weight and decided I don't want to deal with that. My panny isn't a yr old yet.

ESPN has looked bad for awhile, and thats on a 46". 50" and a 55". Most info I've seen is that (and why) it varies game to game depending on the cameras. HD cameras need to be calibrated too, and many are not.

I've watched the 3:30 ESPN and it looked like kaka, while the 7pm looks great.

Could be

That could be true since I only ck on it whenever the subject comes up here. I'm not a sports person. Right now it looks pretty awful but has nothing to do with PQ. It is snowing fairly heavy and ain't no way I would want to be in it.
Now back to being a little more serious, it seems to be worse for those that receive it on 110 than those that get it off 72.7.

It is a KP-57WS510. I feel in now way I am sacrificing PQ. If I did I would have bought something new. But a high end plasma is not worth the minor PQ improvement in my book.

Show me where plasma has better CR than CRT. CRT is typically considered the best. Printed measurements from the manufacturer are worthless.

I have well controlled light in the room, so brightness is not an issue.

Yep, link worked fine. Most of the items appear accurate, but this is just someones collection of thoughts and not from some scientific study and no numbers to back things up. Oh well, we've probably hijacked the thread enough. :)

Off to enjoying subpar ESPN on Dish!!
