Geeks.com Ordering Is Being Turned Off...

After 17 years of service, almost half a billion dollars’ worth of computer products put in the hands of loyal Geeks worldwide, jobs for hundreds of people and support for their family members. That is what Geeks.com meant to us and the people who worked here. Words cannot express our gratitude for the relationships and customers we have developed.
But all good things come to an end.

As of today, Friday, August 2nd, 2013, we are turning off ordering on Geeks.com. We will cease to sell and ship products immediately. Geeks.com has always stood behind our products and don’t intend to stop now. We plan on fulfilling all of our responsibilities and liabilities, including, orders, any credits due will be issued, and we will have a small staff on hand to answer questions, to process returns, and to faithfully honor warranties. Please be patient as we will have no phone support. Please click here for any customer service related issues. If you have a problem with a product or a technical question we can help with, please send it here. The corporation itself is not closing. Our retail store in Oceanside California is open for business and will remain open!
Our vision has always been to provide the geeky tech consumer an alternative avenue to purchase quality refurbished and new techy products and gadgets. That vision was the cornerstone of our slogan “Best Deals Every Nanosecond”. Unfortunately after a lot of difficult consideration the owners of Geeks.com feel we are unable to come through on this vision any longer.
There are many why's... The e-commerce landscape, as well as the consumer electronics market, has changed dramatically with intense competition and a 1000lb gorilla (do we really need to say who) competitor that can lose millions of dollars to buy customers and suck up inventory. They can lose money with impunity, supported by the stock market. We cannot.
Our wholesale division Evertek.com is still available for our business to business customers. Please visit our website for further information.
We are deeply sorry and saddened by the impact this will have on the families of our staff members, on our own families, and on the community of customers who were a part of us.
We are very hopeful that we can turn ordering back on at some future date.
In the meantime feel free to use our Facebook page as a way to express your thoughts on our decision or anything about Geeks.com, computers, and consumer electronics. We welcome and would love your feedback. The days and weeks ahead are going to be difficult for all, and like anyone, we need cheering up too :)
With fond memories of the past and with hope for the future, we are signing off...
The Geeks Team

I always made it a point to look through their site for anything else I could bundle in on the shipping.
Guess I didn't order often enough. :down
?
Dont know who they are calling the 1000 pound gorilla.
There are several general electronics dealers out there.
?
Well, sad to see an old friend go.

A dominant company like

Monoprice.
Frys.
Newegg.

Don't 1000 Lb Gorilla's live in the Amazon?

That would be my guess.

Only if the Amazon suddenly moved to Africa. But, that aside, I did get the impression that the comment was a veiled reference to Amazon.

I was wondering if they were referring to amazon store sellers since must of the items were Refurbished or just amazon?

Yep, gotta be Amazon. And I'm guilty. I haven't ordered from Geeks in years- just too easy to do it all at Amazon.

Gee I wish I'd bought their stock when I first meant to.

Yup I order almost everything now through Amazon. Prices are better and its in my house shipped for free in 2 days (and I normally get them the next day.)

They often had parts and other gismos difficult to find elsewhere, have made a few purchases from them. Guess that business environment is just getting too competitive and someone has to get pushed out. Another option bites the dust... :(

Sad to see them go.MAde a few purchases with them over the years, video cards,pc stuff stc.The only reason I didn't buy from them more, was because of higher shipping costs.Could always get free shipping with amazon,or newegg.

The component suppliers I normally shopped at were: Mouser, Jameco, & DigiKey.
I gave up on eBay years ago, due to a problem transferring funds (and haven't gone back).
Amazon has become my first stop shopping for anything I can't get locally. :)
.
Old time electronic stores have gone the way of the dodo bird.
There might still be one 15 miles away, but there used to be ... Six or more!
.
PS:
Newegg is 15 miles, but they don't do will call pick up nor returns.
Monoprice is 50 miles, and great to do business with. Visited them once for a big TV wall bracket. They let me see the two models I was considering. :up
?

I used to shop them but they stopped being competative and had a small inventory. Oh Well! That's the way it goes sometimes.

Amazon has apparently negotiated more favorable shipping terms than their competitors. The variation in shipping costs paid by different companies, especially for large, bulky items, is significant. I bought two Winegard antennas from Solid Signal a few years ago and the shipping only totaled $23, whereas I was charged $90 by NACE for a shipment of the same two antennas. (NACE did fortify their package with two plastic angle strips which might have added ten dollars or less to the packing cost). About the same time, I had ordered two antennas from Davis Antenna, a dealer just 20 miles away, and they called me back to tell me that UPS had just roughly tripled what they were going to charge for that shipment, and that he had beat them down by about one-third, but he was going to give me the opportunity to either cancel the order or drive over and pick them up myself.

The reality is, we, the customer, are the winner on balance. We'd like to get some more personal service but we aren't willing to pay much for it. That is why Sears and Wards got killed by K-Mart. That is why your local TV store went out of business. I like calling up R.L. Drake to talk to engineers about commercial satellite television products, but I don't buy R.L. Drake products because they cost a few dollars more than Pico.

I ordered something Saturday night after 7pm from Amazon and I got it Monday! Not even one business day!

That surprised me.
