Edit Function on DVR

I wonder if the Dish DVRs will ever offer a basic editing function? Let's say you record an hour and a half of SNL but just want one of the music performances, if there was a feature that you could cut out the part up to and after the performance and then have just the performance saved that would be great. I read somewhere that Tivo is working on this.

I think never is the answer but most hard drive equipped dvd recorders offer editing.
