I know their is a early termination fee of 240. Question grandparents had dish installed about 2 weeks ago. They didnt like it at all couldnt figure out remote missed some of their local stuff they got on cable ect. Anyway they just wanted rid of it. I was thinking you had 30 days to cancel if not satisfied. If not is their any Loophole to avoid this 240 charge.

In some states you get 3 days. It might pay to check your state laws but at 2 weeks it has probably been to long. Maybe you can call E* and see what they can do.

Maybe you can sit down with them and educate them on how to use the service they are stuck with. I've had 80 year old customers happily use the DISH equipment. Usually it required a monthly reminder they had to put the TV on CH3.

Dish Network has a 30 Day Money Back Guarantee. If they cancel in 2 weeks, they should not be charged.

Talk to a different CSR or Coach if you were told otherwise.

That's what I thought. Keep trying until they let you cancel with no "penalty" fee.

One thing I've learned is that satellite TV is NOT for everyone, some people have a hard time understanding how it works. If the installer didn't show them how to use the remote control, it made it even harder for them to understand how to use it.

My guess is some idiot sales person sold them a DVR system to make a few extra bucks.... they do this crap all the time where I install and most the time the customer doesn't even know what a DVR is let alone have any interest in using it.

E* does not have a 30 day money back guarantee. They only way to break the contract without penality is if the $99 installation charge was paid by the customer to keep from having a contract. Some states do have "buyers remorse" laws that would apply to a certain timeframe, although my guess is that 2 weeks is out of that time frame. This is not to say that you could not play CSR roulette and find someone to make this happen for you but, I would thank them alot if they do because they are not supposed to do this.

I think jclewter is right on this one. At one point in time E* did have a 30 day money back guarantee where you could cancel service without a cancellation fee. Unless they've started that again then they will likely have to pay the cancellation fee. Now right of rescission vary from state to state but typically I have not seen one extend to 30 days, then again I haven't examined all of the states' laws. Keep in mind as well that if they were installed by a retailer they may be subject to the retailer charging cancellation fees which are typically a LOT more than what E* charges on top of what E* would charge them to cancel the service.

Unless you can get the cancellation fee(s) waived your best bet may be to educate them and perhaps see about getting different boxes if they are too complicated for them to use. Granted if they're already using something like the 322 or 311 it doesn't get much simpler than that.

You need to offer something more solid than CSR roulette.

I have workorders every day that list "30 Day MBG" in the codes area. This promotion still exists.

tastim,
Are those new connect work orders?

I know there was a period when they used to offer the 30 mbg, but that's been a while. Maybe you are seeing old codes.

Direct-TV is the same way. Want a loophole, try Fios TV. They got a 30 day money back thing.

I did my HD upgrade on 8-2-08 and the tech had me sign a 18 month contract. Just because those work orders say 30 day MBG does not mean that is current.

I would really like to know where the hell people come up with a 30 day money back guarantee.

Everytime I get a customer on the phone and they want to cancel within 30 days they mention that they have 30 days to cancel. I talked to a new customer on the phone yesterday and she was telling me how she thought she had 30 day to cancel?

I have reviewed phone calls, and talked to all my sales agents and its nobody in my officing telling people they have a 30 day money back guarantee.

There is techinically no grace period in the contract, however some states do give you 3 days!.

The reason why Dish no longer has a money back guarantee is because too many customers where abusing it. There where a certain percentage of customers would would get Dish to have a superbowl party for example. Use the Dish on Superbowl Sunday and then cancel Monay morning.

Then we have the customers who have tech issues, and then hold the 30 day money back guarantee over our heads and threaten cancellation, instead of allowing DISH Network to solve the problem.

As far as the no committment option for $99, the reason why its $99 is because too many customers would sign up with the service knowing they where going to cancel in a few months.

BOTTOM LINE THERE IS NO 30 DAY MONEY BACK GUARANTEE

As far as the situation with your grandparents, they need to talk to customer service and see if they will make an exception and let them out of their contract.
