Where it's Warm
Thumbnails of the E11 footprints at 110W. Sure would be nice if the forum attachments allowed Google Earth file types. Could link up to Google Earth and show much more detail.

Footprint extracted from co-ordination data for beam THL. Iso-dBw's are -2,-4,-6,-8,-10,-15,-20 with max EIRP at 56.2

Alasks and Hawaii will be happy.

Ok for those of us that do not know what the lines mean can someone explain like if it was for a first grader what do they mean? I see Puerto Rico Hawaii and alaska fall within the yellow line. What does that mean??

Yellow is -10 dBm

That means the EIRP (a measure of the signal reaching that location) is about 56.2-10 or about 46.2 dBm

A graph showing a crude approximation of dish size required to maintain quality reception vs signal strength is attached. Receiver sensitivity can change the curve but the principle remains the same. You can see that a very small dish (18-20 inches) is required in the 48 states but Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, Alaska, etc need bigger dishes.

My apologies to those in Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands for not including a clear picture of the Caribbean in my fiirst post.

For the regions listed, a guesstimate would be:

30" in Hawaii
30" in Puerto Rico
36" in US Virgin Isles
.9-1.2m in SE Alaska(Juneau)
1.2m+ in Central Alaska(Anchorage)

Can you please give us a legend of the colored lines ? Thanks !

PS Is it correct to say that - ironically - the lowest signal strength in CONUS will be in the Denver area, and the highest signal strength will be is Atlanta ?

Thanks for the maps!

FWIW I agree that it would be very nice if this site allowed Google Earth file types as attachments (at least the .kml file type that is human readable plain text). IMHO The existing flat earth style maps for CONUS / beam coverage are a joke now that 3D earth views are both free and commonly used :(

Edit: Can your map be saved as a .kml file? If so, you could upload it as a .txt and simply tell folks to change the suffix to .kml before they open it.

E11 110W Footprints - Consolidated

Per various requests, I have consolidated the footprints on this post and providing color code for iso-dBw's

Beam =THL
Peak EIRP = 56.2 dBw
Cyan = -2 dBw
Lime = -4 dBw
Blue = -6 dBw
Pink = -8 dBw
Yellow = -10 dBw
Orange = -15 dBw
Red = -20 dBw

I will try converting the Google Earth file later today and upload it this evening if I can get it to work.

hmmm in south of Guatemala we only get half of the transponders for 110 with a 1.8mt dish
will the new echostar XI affect the signal here in anyway?

kstuart excellent bump, thanks.

nelson61 thanks for the pictures and the color code. I had missed this thread when it was up before.
