Hello all,

I posted this question in the Dish Network forum several days ago, but no one could answer my question, so I thought the FTA crowd might help so here it goes...

I know this is probably a long shot, but is it possible to use a single LNB dish with a SG2100 motor on a Dish Network receiver to receive 110, 119, 129? I'm not too familar with the DISEQC capabilities and if it was at all possible. I have strong doubts, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

My thoughts are that it'll never get past the check switch. I realize that it's not even close to being practical and that'll be slow as hell channel surfing between sats. I just wanted to try it for the hell of it.

nope, nothing in the dish receivers code to tell a motor what to do.

if you happened to be already pointed at one of their satellites, check switch would find just that one.

I have almost no experience with dish networks or their receivers, but --- getting around the check switch -- it eventually comes up with "failed" then you can view what you paid for. The receiver in my motor home will not do motor commands, but I do no know about others. AND if you are hooked up to a phone line and E* looks for a particular transponder setting and cannot find it you might get a service call or a $5.00 phone charge per month on your bill. (This from an RVer whose phone waiver got lost by E*.)

Pepper pretty much said "no", but if you need another opinion, then: NO! - :D

The Dish Network receiver won't command the motor, no way, no how.
If you were to hook up an FTA receiver or a piece of test gear that'd move the motor, you'd have to run Check Switch at each new position, and operation of the receiver would be PAINful !

As to what the DN receiver would do at night to load the guide, get updates, or whatever, well... it wouldn't be happy.
Whenever any one asks about mounting their DN LNB onto a motorized FTA dish, or wiring it in with the same coaxes, switches, or trying to save cables into the house, we tell them one thing:
Keep the FTA stuff and the DN or DirecTV stuff on their own -proper- antennas, and do not try to mix them!

A few months back (maybe summer) some clever fellow did put a Dish 500 on a motor as a joke.
He posted pictures here in the FTA forum.
You can search for it for laughs, but do not take it seriously! -
We are a fun bunch ! - :up

Are you talking about this? Maybe I shouldn't admit it, but that wasn't a joke. I've watched a bunch of feeds with that thing. For a while there that was the only working dish I had. Pitiful, huh? :D

E*Dude: Have you considered getting into FTA (assuming you haven't already)? You sound like a good candidate and it would be a much better use of that motor.http://www.satelliteguys.us/member.php?u=109338

no offense:

Yea, that was it! Laughed my tail off! - :D
But as I said, we do have a sense of humor around here.
After reading many posts by Iceberg and others, about getting FTA signals on small dishes, I built one, too.
... with an Invacom! How's that for a sense of humor?
I always did mean to motorize it, but you beat me to it! - :up
So, does that mean the joke's on me?

. . . btw, great job!
