Perhaps two questions may help:

1. Even though the 721 is grandfathered out of the DVR fee, would it incur an additional receiver fee once activated?

2. Would it be covered by Dish under the DHPP, even though it was not obtained directly from Dish?

Yes, any additional receiver will incur the mirror fee.

Yes, since it is E* equipment, As far as I know it would be covered by DHPP.

It would DEFINITELY be covered by DHPP. Anything with a Dish Network logo on it is covered under DHPP.

Your better off calling Dish and telling them the unit is DOA, and have DHPP send you a remanufactured replacemet.

List the replacement on ebay and you'll get more money!

I am seeing used 721's going for as cheap as under $100 on ebay so this might be why this is not going for much. I was shocked at how cheap these were going for. I think some may have been lucky to get a little over $100. This is a great receiver if you do not need two different televisions or name based recording. I like the speed of the EPG on the 721 as its the fastest of any receiver even faster than the 522/625.

I donated the receiver to my wife's aunt/uncle that needed a 3rd receiver.
