DVR Viewing throughout entire home?

My buddy recently told me that he just got a software upgrade to his DirecTV receiver that now allows him to view DVR content to any TV in his home, as long as the receiver at that TV is connected to his LAN. Sounds to me like the networked receivers are streaming content between each other.

Any chance that Dish will be rolling out a similar feature anytime soon? It would be nice to view the DVR content at any location in the house, without having to manage multiple DVR receivers, schedules, etc.

I don't think this is what he means.
My guess he means 1 Receiver that does 4 rooms of Full function HD DVR to HD TVS

the directv feature is called MRV - multi room viewing. I dont think it requires anything additional, just as long as the receiver providing the video source to each TV is connected to the home network, then from any TV you can view the DVR content.

A friend of mine with DirecTV mentioned he's had the capability in some beta software for awhile now. He also mentioned that he read that when it gets officially rolled out that DirecTV will be charging fee for the service.

I only have one DISH 722, and I have it hooked up in such a way that I can watch it on any of the five televisions in my home (and I can control from any of those rooms as well).

yea, my friends is beta software also. I assume that you are backfeeding through the coax output of the 722, to a splitter and are then controller the TV2 feed with multiple TV2 remotes.

I am feeding my two SD TVs with the coax, but I am feeding one HDTV via component and two others via long HDMI runs (monoprice.com has cheap cables/splitters BTW). I have an IR distribution system so I can control either TV1 or TV2 (with the IR-to-RF converter) via IR from any room with television.

i currently run Component and HDMI simultaneously on my 622 to feed my living room and bedroom, but I dont have the IR distribution. The problem I have is that occassionaly I would like to view my DVR content when I am in the finished basement, which I dont have another HDMI cable run to, and I dont want to run one through the finished ceiling. I realize I can get the SD content via TV2 coax output, but I would prefer to watch it in HD. I also could add an EHD to my 211 in the basement, but then I would have to manage (2) different DVR schedules, which is a PITA...

I am with you, brother! This is the number one feature I would like to see added to the ViP DVRs. Hopefully Dish is already working on this... The current solution with backfeeding sd feeds and calling it "multiroom" is a previous generation method. To continue having the industry's best DVR, they need to roll out this feature.

An updated guide interface with logos, outside of the 922, would also be nice... But let's call that priority number two.

I have been waiting for years for a similar solution. Instead, Dish works on Mickey Mouse crap like a touchpad remote control. Give me a break.....
I have my bedroom hooked up via coax to my 622. I now have an HD TV in my bedroom. I either would like a tuner two HDMI output (not a long run), a tuner two output on coax that is similar to a broadcast HD signal, or a way to put a cheap HD receiver in my bedroom but have it pull recorded (HD) content from my 622. So far the only solution I have found is to go get another 622 for the bedroom, but then I have to set identical timers in both rooms as I never know where I will watch from.

There's a HUGE benefit to this though. If one receiver/HDD dies, you still have copies of your DVR'd events.

I actually have that setup, and consider it a benefit.

You could get a component to ethernet balun, and then just have the ethernet to component balun on the other end. This gets really expensive though.

Yeah, I've never understood why those baluns are so expensive. For what they actually are, they should cost 1/10 of what they charge for them.

We'd all love to have that, but the content providers are dead set on not letting that happen.

I know more then I can say at this point... but the answer is yes and the neat thing is on many of the newer TV's you won't even need a receiver on the extra TV's.
