DVR no phone

I wish to upgrade some of my receivers to DVR's but I do not have phone line access in each location I want a DVR. I do have Ethernet in one of the locations.

So the question is will the DVR work w/o a phone line hook up, if not will it work with Ethernet?

Should I buy from D* or outside provider.

A phone line is only required to order PPV from your TV, so the receiver will work fine with no phone and you can order PPV from the directv website. The R22 has ethernet capabilities as well as all of the newer HD DVRs, but ethernet is optional. The other SD DVRs do not have ethernet.
