Duplicate Programs Recorded

Hi, I have the HR34 and with it I record several "Series". On ALL of them I have the option set at "First Run" only. Some of them record the way they should (only the first time the program airs) but others record the program every time it airs. Is there a solution to this?
Thanks in advance.

Also, I have my DVR set up to record certain sports teams every time they air. With the NFL for instance, it even records "Pay Per View" games, which I never watch because of the ridiculous cost so I am constantly deleting them. For NBA games, it will record games from channels I don't even get. Is there a way to eliminate certain channels (in this case, pay per view and ones I don't subscribe to) out of the channels it will record from? Can I "Block" those channels?

Again, thanks in advance.

Sometimes when you have a series set to record it also does repeats. That's because the original air date isn't included so the dvr goes by the title.

I am seconding Chip's post - if you look at the detailed info, you will probably not see any S/E info and no original air date.

Which is inexplicable in this day. I've had Dish & UVerse in the past & have never dealt with so much duplicate recordings as I've had with Direct. Apart from that I'm a lover of Directv.

It's a well documented Directv problem. The series/episode information has only been live a few weeks. There are people who swear it's not a Directv issue but it just is!

Until the industry gets together and decide to embed some type of bar-code in everything broadcast, there will always be bugs in any manual system used.

Thanks for all the replies.

What about my second question about blocking certain channels from being recorded?

You can build a complex "Boolean search" defining what channels you want to include/exclude. But I can't tell you exactly how, I've never done it.

Possibly... you can hide the channels from the guide by setting the favorites to "channels I get" then manually fine tuning the few that slip through.

I don't believe it will record to a channel not in your guide.

You can do a single channel or a range of channels

CCHANS 2
CCHANS 621 655

The first will only record channel 2. The other will record all channels from 621 to 655 of whatever you put in front of CCHANS

I would recommend setting up the Boolean auto records as mentioned above, I have posted some search strings for other fellow members here in another thread. Reading through that may help you. Or you can post with the specific teams you want to setup and we can help. http://www.satelliteguys.us/xen/threads/season-recording-for-sports.344308
