I would imagine since you are adding a new piece of equipment this would require a commitment extension?

Or would dish look at this as a replacement instead with no new contract?

Probably want a new 2-year. But if they call it dish 'n it up, the ETF is then $10/month.

I added an SJ and that's what I have now for an ETF. Got the contract to prove it too!! :)

Hmm, buy the joey, then just activate it and deactivate the super. Might look into that

None of my business, but why are you wanting to drop from a SJ to a Joey? You'd be loosing two tuners. Is the fee that much cheaper?

We have dropped down to the welcome package in a trial run of going OTA and streaming options only (maybe sling tv, although I can still get most of that without it). In doing so and getting all of our cable shows through other means, we really do not have anything to record except what PTAT can handle, and that still leaves me two tuners.

No the savings is not much, only $3, but I just figured I would save it since I am not using it.

Edit: of course if we do cancel this season entirely, that savings will be negated by buying a joey outright. So I may just stick as is until we decide concrete what our plans are.
So far, about a month in, and I can deal with it. The wife is coming around now that she sees that 98% of what she watches is available. Just have to use a different method than she is doing now.

I guess you must have pretty good broadband service? If you are thinking SlingTV and streaming. Do you have data caps?

I have uverse, and for the most part it has been fairly reliable. Much moreso in the past 6 months when they replaced some lines. It is one reason I am not seriously considering this.

And yes, in theory we have a data cap. However, I generally do the majority of my tv viewing now with streaming, minus some sports that I get at least half of OTA.
I imagine my data usage wont be that much higher with this plan than it is now. As of now, I have not heard a single thing about being at or over the limit.

From your further posts, I think I would just give it some more time before making a change to the E* gear. As you note, it is only $3/month difference between the SJ and Joey and your cutting the cord might not work as well as you hope going forward.

Can you get UVerse TV or are you in one of those areas that has internet only? I know I have seen some good deals for UVerse TV of course, I hear that the HD PQ is not the best and the equipment is not very good either.

Beware that Dish will try to charge you for shipping receivers back to them.

When I dropped 2 Joeys in November they tried it on me but I refused and they still sent me the boxes with no shipping charge.

Also, if you are leasing the Super Joey Dish will make you return it when it is deactivated.

The shipping charge should only apply if you are getting replacements or canceling account. Otherwise there should not be a cost associated with it(atleast that is how it has been for years).

Upgrade from a Hopper 2000 to a Hopper w/Sling, worth it?
