Sometimes, there is a possibility of a championship matchup/playoff series that could be potentially amazing, only to never materialize.

Can you recall any instances where an "OMG! This would be great" matchup never happened and we got a "THIS is what we're stuck with?"

A great example would be in 2003, when we nearly had a Red Sox/Cubs World Series.
