Downgrading 2 722 receivers

In July or so of last year, we upgraded both of our 622 receivers to 722s and I believe it extended our contract. In January one of the receivers had a problem, and it took two free replacements to receive a new one (the first replacement was bad too). We just noticed on our account that it had a $300 fee pending for not returning equipment when we know we did. After a chat they said that it was received but our account had just not updated.

Anyway, in doing all this, we started looking at other options. We have Hulu Plus so we don't really need our DVR features that much anymore. What I was wondering was this -- how much would it cost to downgrade the 722s to 222s? I heard that you could add an external hard drive to the 222 to make it a DVR, and we already have an EHD hooked up to one of the two 722s, so we would be saving the $6 a month on the DVR fees I assume? Is this still the case even if you use an EHD to turn the 222 into a DVR? Would our monthly costs go down by making this downgrade? How about if we did 1 222k and 1 211k?

Lastly, but maybe most importantly.. would there be any fees to downgrade receivers if we aren't wanting DVR features anymore?

A "downgrade" would be treated like any other "upgrade" and be subject to the appropriate fees.

You cannot connect an external drive to a 222 (any version) only the 211, 211k or 411

Exactly, and they will want another 2 year contract.

On a 222, you would be better off buying one since they sell for around $119, compaired to a lease where your locked into another contract.

Your PRIMARY receiver is a 722 and is included in the cost of programming, the only extra expense is the DVR fee which is applied to the account. Your second 722 costs $17/mo. a 222 I believe would still cost you $10 per month for the additional receiver. Can you drop to only one receiver that would save you $204/yr(12x$17)?

I just talked to an online rep and they said it would be $7 for the extra receiver whether I owned it or leased it.. that doesn't sound right. Is it right?

hmm.. we really only need 3 TVs covered.. the 4th is rarely watched. Maybe I can switch to the 211k and drop the 722.
Do you have over the air reception? I use one 612 receiver with the output on ch.3 NTSC combined with an OTA antenna, any TV in the house can access a SD CH3 satellite signal or an OTA ATSC signal so one satellite receiver serves the whole house. That way there are no extra receiver fees needed.

You can add an ehd to the 211 and turn it into a dvr. That is a 1 time per account fee. There is no monthly dvr fee, just the $7/mo Solo Receiver feww. That would save you $10/mo.
