Does 211 need to be activated before receiving DEMO channels?

Does 211 need to be activated before receiving DEMO channels?

Every previous receiver I've owned shows DEMO channels, even when not activated with Dish.

I just received a 211. It works to the point of acquiring satellite. The menu and the guide works, but there are no DEMO channels.

There's just a message stating that the receiver has not been activated. It takes a long time to acquire the signal, if at all. When it gets the activation message, the system freezes.

Any ideas?

Yes it needs to be activated at least once, to see the demos.

Mine Did The Same Thing. You Need To Activate It For It To Work In Any Mode.
