I still watch SNL but every time I do I find myself disappointed or just wanting a particular skit to be overwith because it sucks so badly. Could it get any worse? remember the days when Belushi had you in tears laughing at his killer bees? Or eddie murphy in Mr robinsons neighborhood? WTF happened to this show?

Anyway how would you rate it now from 1-10? I give it a 4. Pretty sad

Of course... that was almost 30 years ago :D

Maybe it has just run its course; and a long course at that!

I'd say 4 is pretty generous. 3 for me.

It wasn't too terribly bad when Tina Fey was head writing it. But now that Seth Meyers has taken over duties, it's just...painful. Very painful.

I watched last night's episode and the only parts I fairly enjoyed were a few of the Weekend Update skits and the musical guest "Snow Patrol"

I agree that the early years had more funny than unfunny moments. But memory is a funny thing. We remember the killer bees from Balushi as well as the Samuri (fill in the blank) skits. The guilda Radner Rosane Rosanadana/Emily Latella characters. We remember the "I'm Chevy Chase and you're not" lines. And it was Cheezboorger, Cheezebooger, Cheezboorger, cheep, cheep

We also had the landshark, the news headlines repeated for the hard of hearing and the lounge singer with Paul Schafer as the pianist.

But we forget that they had to fill 90 minutes of time 26 weeks a year for 6 years. By the end of the fifth year people were complaining that the show lost its zip.

We remember the blues brothers from the movie more than the show. The show only had the Blues Brothers musical performance and that is IT. Mr. Robinson's neighborhood did not come around for many years after the original cast was thrown out.

What I am saying is we remember NBC's Saturday Night (SNL tag came later because of the confusion with the Cosell variety show on ABC thus the change in the openig tag to "Live from New York, it's Sarudray Night!") as a continuously funny show only because we threw out the bad parts. There were great moments in the original SNL and a couple of the casts that followed. But let's not kid ourselves...that's all they were. Very funny, memorable moments and nothing more!

See ya
Tony <---Was in SNL audience in 1979 w/Bob Newhart as host. Had to squish down in my seat to allow crane camera to get shot of him doing the open. (Now THAT was memorable!)

The episode with Rainn Wilson a few weeks ago made me laugh out loud a few times. I couldn't remember that last time a live sketch on that show made that happen. Smacking down SNL for not living up to it's former standards is almost as old as the show itself. Charles Rocket anyone?

The only 3 actors I like on the show now are Jason Sedekis, Kristen Wiig, and Andy Sandburg. Chris Parnell is funny sometimes. The 2 Aholes at a ...... is funny. The Target Lady skits are funny too.

tina is awesome in 30 rock, i didn't even know she was in snl. nowadays u have shows like colbert report that take what was sketches and stretch it out to half an hour everyday so it makes sense imo snl would suck more and more as time goes on as # of channels increase.

i would agree. People forget how absolutely horrible the show was once the original cast left. Murphy was the best thing about it that next year and he was not even an official cast member. Charles rocket, Denny Dillon, and Gilbert Gotffried went on to some limited success elsewhere but find nothing on the show and who even remembers the rest of the cast (Joe Piscopo might be an exception but just barely).

People are always predicting its demise

I hate going and sitting in the audience on the Saturday Night Live set, as the seats that are there have been "borrowed" from Yankee Stadium.

As a Red Sox fan I fell like I am doing something wrong. :)

That studio has a lot of history in it. :)

The things I always liked best about Saturday Night Live was not the comedy, but the musical acts they would have perform. Some great performances on that show.

the 90's special which aired sunday night reminded me of how much i liked snl in the early and late 90's. the middle years were horrible. but the first years are best.

got the first season dvd for a christmas present and the great thing is the original musicians are in tact. i also have the best of snl music dvd set which is fairly incredible.
