Hi,
I have a some questions I've been trying to find the answers to. I would appreciate any replies/help.

I'm a current Directv subscriber with standard def with single dvr. when I installed it, I had second receiver installed, but dropped it about 6 mos ago.

I had directv in 1999 to 2001 and did a self install at the same location I am now. I dropped it for a TWC cable deal. I have DTV now, but I am looking to upgrade to the HD service.

First question, but background first... I have locals on the same sat as the other programming.. but would the 3 lnb dish suffice for HD service over the 5 lnb? What's the diff?

Will a Zinwell 6x8 multi switch work for for a 3 lnb HD installation, or do I need something else?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Also.. is the Ethernet port on the HD DVR used, or just "there"?

If you stick with the old triple lnb dish, you will not get any of the new MPEG4 HD channels.

There are two 3 LNB dishes, the old Phase III (which has a few HD channels but these are going away) and the new Slimline 3, which will get all of the HD programming but not 110 or 119. The WB68 will work with either the Slimline 5 or the Slimline 3. There are also SWM LNBs with both 3 and 5 LNBs.

The ethernet connection can be used for On Demand, Media Share and the new Directv2PC software which allows you to view recorded content on a PC. It can also be used to order PPV and will support Multi Room Viewing, when that becomes available.
