Dish almost ripped me off twice during the same phone call!!
I received an email for the Tsunami relief Cricket match that Dish is offering for $9.95. I could not order it with my remote (maybe because my system is so old), so I decided to use the phone order and pay the extra $1.
However, when I called, the automated response now says that the cost is $19.95 ($10 more that their advertisement and their website). So I speak to a live person and ask her why the diff? Her remarkable explanation is that there are 2 prices for the same event, but could not explain the diff between the 2 events (ther's only one cricket match being played today).
Anyway, she says she can hook me up for $9.95, and I say ok. Then she says, oh there's a $5 fee to hook you up.
I blew my lid. $5 to hook me up when it's normally $1? So quickly she says, oh I'll waive it.
Well it all stank of misleading advertising. If I didn't know better, they would have charged me $19.95 instead of $9.95. Then when I caught them out, they wanted to charge me $5 instead of $1. If I dindn't know better, I would have paid it, too.
Anyway I cancelled the whole event, and now I am thinking of cancelling Dish and getting Direct TV.

....seems like Dish is going backwards in their evolution. I used to recommend the service to all my friends and family because of the no fee PVRs and the promise of name based recording. Now I really don't see a great amount of value difference between them and cable, although I hate Comcast and would never switch back to them. :no

I don't know what the deal is with Dish lately, but they're really burning their bridges.

Somehow, a subscription ($21+/month) to the Playboy channel ended up on my AEP in mid-December and I only caught it on Friday. I did not request it, it just appeared on my bill!

I called and talked to a CSR. She was nice enough about my request to remove it (at no extra charge) and crediting me the partial month charge from December, but I'd sure like to know how it got there in the first place?

The CSR said I added it via the website and I explained to her that wasn't possible because I only added a Distant Local Network and didn't even go into the porn section of the website and that I've never ordered any porn in the almost 8 years that I've been with Dish. Again, she was nice enough about removing it at no charge and crediting me the partial month charge, but I'd still like to know how the heck it got there to begin with?

I'll be watching my bill very carefully from now on.

Well if for some reason you couldn't order by remote I dont think they should charge anything to activate it for you. They will scam anything they can from there customers.

Dish satellite is the same as CABLE. With all the new dvr fees, lease fees, no phone line connected fees , and having to carry the locals just to get ota guide info for the 921 , and lots not forget the yearly $3.00- $4.00 price increases. This is the 5th increase since 2001. I guess soon we will be charged for the remote control too , just like Cable. THe lease deal they are constanly pushing on new and older subs with the Dish-n-up upgrades on the net. The funniest thing is that they have the nerve to knock cable in all their advertising campaigns. What hypocrites.

Whose the pig now Charlie?? OINK !OINK !OINK !

Last month I noticed online that my bill had jumped 25.00. When I checked my account it said I now had TEN. When I called they said I had added it online in December when I added Fox distant from LA. They took it off but would not credit me for the time it was on. I played csr roulette until I got sick of it but could not find anyone to credit me the five dollars. I live alone and I know I did not put it on. I wonder if they were having some computer error with adding distants online. It has really cheesed me off. I have had enought of Dish. The same night my 510 froze and recorded nothing of my some of fav shows. If DTV had upn i would so be gone. I am waiting for Wildblue to launch before I switch or purchase new equipment.

Dish Network has had too many people try to pull things on them so they are very very strict and very tough on getting things such as this credited back to you on the account. You need to have a PIN put on your account.

They tried to charge me the phone line fee ($4.99 x 2) since one of my receivers (322) was not hooked up at the time of install. The installer told me that Dish would waive the fee for the first month and I was there when he requested this on the phone to the CSR. Well they charged me anyway and refused to remove the charge. They offered to prorate it and because of some fuzzy math I only ended up paying around $.50 more than I should have so it wasn't too bad. This just surprised me since I was a first time customer and this was such a small amount for them to quibble about. I was actually ready to cancel right there on the phone. And to top it all off I work at Radio Shack and sell Dish. They acted like I was just being a nuisance and trying to rip them off. I hope that they are not treating everyone (especially my customers) this way. Anyway, just my $.02.

The cost for a ppv through the automated system is 1$ however the charge for ordering a ppv event through an agent is 5$. However for the tsunami relief event if I didn't hear correctly from one of the agents was supposed to be waived anyways.

Is there a planned replacement for the 811?
