Dish won't sell me a 942???

I just came off the phone after calling Dish to buy a 942 for my new home. They tell me that they cannot sell me this unit because it is too expensive (!).

They referred me to a retailer - there are no retailers withing 50+ miles of my home and they have never heard of a 942.

I am moving into a home in La Quinta, CA (close to Palm Springs). Anyone had any success buying a 942??
