Dish Size Information

My first post on this forum so hello to you all.

This last week I discoverd by chance on the web the world of FTA and this reminded me of almost 20 years ago when I had a 10' solid C band antena and loved surfing all those channels before encryption was started.

I live in Guatemala, Central America and have had for the last 10 years a 1.8m dish for pay tv. Because of a weak signal I need to upgrade to a very expensive 2.4m dish. I also purchased the other week in the US a HDTV receiver.

I happen to have an abandoned 1.2m prime focus dish that was used for Latin Direct TV. Would it be possible to use this 1.2m dish on an FTA motorized system???.

In this part of the world long 90 lat 14, would I be able to pick up enough satellites with a strong enough signal strength with a 1.2m dish to make it worthwhile buying an FTA system????.

Also is it worthwhile buying an FTA system now or would I be better off waiting until HD FTA receivers are available????.

I posted these questions on another FTA site but no answers. So I hope this site has much more friendly people!!!!.

The price of a HD receiver is relative, to some members they still cost way too much (So use a DVB PC card for HD) and others have jumped at the chance to own a HD FTA STB.

By Sadoun's site you should be good to go with that dish.

Your dishes should be easy to get a good LOS as they will be pointing up at like 70*

That "Closer to the Equator" thing works good My true south is 50*
