Hello all

I am setting up a new dish and I am having some problems that I hope some one will help me with.

First off my setup is Pansat 3500sd, Fortec 90p dish, sg2100 motor, Invacom qph-031 quad lnbf, and one 4x1 diseqc. I live in NH and my lat is 43.26n long 71.38w.

I have installed the dish using a good level to make sure the mount is true. And have set my motor angle to 43 and my dish angle to match the birds in my list (i.e. sbs-6 according to satellite finder is at 39.8)

I am trying to set the dish at my closet bird to my south to that I think is sbs-6 at 74w, amc at 72w, and nahuel-1 at 71.8w to cover the full fta and dss arc. I under stand that I might not get the nahuel and amc bird so I have concentrated on the sbs-6 bird. After moving the dish up and down and the motor up and down slowly I am unable to find any birds. The only bird I get is that bird that is like dish that we can’t talk a bought on this forum.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks all
Dave

WELCOME to the SatelliteGuys.US FTA forum I would check to make sure you have the motor elevation set correctly, on side is LATITUDE and the other ELEVATION.
(Motor elevation should be 47º)

Dish elevation should be 23.4º

I would use AMC-6 as a true south satellite, I always suggest removing and finding your true south satellite WITHOUT the motor using the above angles and a LIVE transponder. Watch only for signal quality!

Put it this way, if you cannot get 95% or higher(quality wise) on AMC6 (on The Gospel Broadcasting Network), you need to tweak it some more, especially with a 90cm dish. I think I could tune that channel in with a frisbee :) FYI, I am at 71.5W, 41.5N...

Thanks …

Ok I will
1) set my motor at 47
2) set my dish at 23.4
3) I will go directly to my Linear output on my lnb
4) set my LNB (Freq) L.O. to 10750
5) go to amc-6
6) go to 12144 tp23

I will let you know what happened good or bad lol

Just make sure you are setting the right side of the motor! (one side will be set at 43º and the other 47º)

If you don't get anywhere remove the motor and use the above angles for AMC-6

Thanks …

Ok I will
1) set my motor latitude at 47
2) set my motor elevation at 43
3) set my dish at 23.4
4) I will go directly to my Linear output on my lnb
5) set my LNB (Freq) L.O. to 10750
6) go to amc-6
7) go to 12144 tp23

And if I still get nothing I will remove the motor and place the dish on the pole with out the motor

I will let you know what happened good or bad lol

Motor............

Latitude scale should be 43º

Elevation scale should be 47º

:)

Good LUCK!

Hi Psb

Ok my motor was already set for 47 and 43. I moved my dish from around 30 to 23.4 give or take and installed my feed line directly to my lnb the only problem I have is that I don’t have the tp23 in my Pansat list under amc-6. What do I put in under the edit tp fields to install the amc-6 12144 tp23?

DFreq. 12144

Polarity. V

Symbol Rate. 2573

(Sorry do not have a Pansat)

Well I installed tp23 in my Pansat and still nothing. I looked at my dish again today and it looks like my lnb arm is bent to the left if I was facing the dash. Looks like I will have to replace the lnb arm Friday or Saturday. is tp23 skew at -45?

disregard the skew in the menus. Its irrelevant. You would physically skew the LNB if a fixed dish but if its motorized, leave it straight up and down.

To add a TP on the Pansat
-antenna setup (password)
-scroll to edit TP/satellite (last one on list)
-select satellite
-I always say edit TP and make the TP PSB gave #1 in the list. Doesn't matter where it is on the list but its easier to make it #1 :)

then save it

Hello Iceberg

Yeah I did that but it looks like a bent lnb arm. How far off from center will the lnb stop working?

I would dismantle the whole dish and put everything on a very flat surface and see if you can force everything back into shape.

If the focal distance is off at all it will severely affect all signals!

im going to install a new arm first then if i get it working i will play with the old one

Hi all

Well I just got my replacement dish today and I will install the dish Friday or Saturday I will let you know were I stand after the set up.

Also I ordered the snh-031 lnb it was only $35 more with the dish. I already have the qph-031 quad lnbf that I am installing. After I get the dish installed and all is working good is it worth it to install the snh-031 and qph-031 on the dish at the same time? I understand that I will probably have to make supports for the extra weight of the second lnb.

Thanks
Dave

The QPH-031 is a Standard Linear and a DBS circular LNBF with 4 outputs, the SNH-031 is a Single output UNIVERSAL LNBF, the ONLY benifit to adding the SNH-031 is Cubavision on the Pas 9 satellite @ 58º w (Will also pull in feeds on this satellite that a standard will not, it can also be used for Nahuel @ 72ºw)

First id like to thank you all for the help you have given me it’s very much appreciated.

Ok well I installed my new dish and I have had some success. I am now receiving sbs-6 at 60-70%, amc-6 at 60-70%, amc-5 at 30-40%, and g-3 at 10-14% (some times spikes to 99% on g-3) these are my closes south birds. How ever after g-3 going west I can’t receive any more fta birds. I checked my mast and it is still level. I must have to tune my dish in better. In order to receive them. I had to move my dish from 23.4 to 30 and my motor is still at 43 and 47. and I have some questions I hope you can help with.

1) should I only move my dish to tune in the signal strength?
2) If I can’t tune the birds in better with just moving the dish should I try moving the motor up and down?
3) I have an analog sat finder model sf-10 what is a good starting point to set it at before moving the dish or motor? Any tips for me with this thing?

Thanks a lot all
Dave

1/ Yes, the motor elevation should never need changed if the mast/pole is level all round and you have taken into account the weight of the dish/motor (I off-set all masts to take this into account).

2/ As above no, but you can try it as you can always put it back.

3/ Satellite finders are good to get you onto the arc, but its best to use the signal quality meter and alive transponder!
