DISH RETENTION

I've been with DISH for about 15 years with clean payment record. Made decision to cut the cord and rely on locals, Netflix and my PC. Called DISH last week to cancel - was offered $10 per month discount for 1 year. Told them I'd think about it. Is this a typical discount offering? Or should I request something more? I've never asked for a price adjustment previously. Any input would be appreciated.
 
The whole dish thing has become horribly expensive so I cut mine down to almost nothing. Seems that of the "500" channels there are only a handful worth watching and most of the PPV stuff is crap. I suspect the premiums will soon have commercials between shows and adjust that time slot accordingly.

I have been offered the $10 deal as well but they always want a new commitment so they can stick you again ... not interested in that anymore. If they would give you $25/month then maybe we would have something to consider.

No kidding about the 500 and little to watch,I scroll through the channel list lots of times and I wind up switching to NBC, CBS or something like that
 
Yes I too have figured out that I mostly watch network tv ,especially in fall primetime season. As for cable channels , I watch a few shows on AMC , news on MSNBC & Cnn and a few select shows on FX , TNT and TBS. I dropped all premium pack channels because they are way to expensive . I don't use DISH vod ,because they are the highest priced in the business. I could get by with just the "welcome pack" if I would do without hd for life.

I have netflix streaming only for $7.99 a monthy and that keeps me very busy with movie and tv shows. HD streaming versions look great over the google box . I think this coming price hike will make a lot of people reconsider their programming pack choices and adjust accordingly. Now if only the channel owners would do the same and stop hiking their prices every year. Their annual ,sometimes bi-annual price hikes , are causing many to cut the cord.

DISH is causing many others to drop them over their ridiculous additional receiver fees. I cut down to two 211ks with dvr support and a 922 -soon to be a 722k . YEt I still pay close to $85.00- $90.00 a month for just top 200 and no premium packs or hd plat. And to think I used to pay $69.99 for AEP just 10 years ago.
 
We have Americas 200 HD, Plat HD, 2 612's, 2 211K's, the service plan and our bill is 96.00 per month. Think about that alot when I am watching something like CSI, NCIS or something on nationals. Really need to get priorities in order. We also have Netflix and Vudu and those don't get watched much except for the youngest daughter who uses it in the evenings, and when her friends are over

Have you tried calling Dish Network? are you still in a commitment? if not they are those who are not in a commitment who called and Dish Network offered them the Dish Network Family package.;)
 
Yup, I called, and I have no committments... I asked the rep about something like a "family" channel " but She wasn't familiar with it, instead was talking about a welcome channel. Perhaps they are the same thing.
 
The Welcome pack had even fewer channels than the Family pack. Neither are available to new subs.
 
DISH ought to bring both the family and the welcome pack back. They might keep some subs that would otherwise churn due to high costs. Directv is actually working on establishing a cheaper pack of programming . DISH of course is headed down the wrong path. Might be one of the reasons why their churn rate is up two quarters in a row.
 
I called Dish this afternoon, mostly to complain about the lack of activity in getting a new deal with MSG (The local sports network here in NY that carries the NY Rangers Hockey Team) - the first two people I spoke to were clearly reading from a script, and most likely one several thousand miles, and at least one ocean away. They each offered about the same - discount of $5 a month for six months, or free HD Platinum for three months ($10 a month, same deal). Finally, I was transferred to someone referred to as a "supervisor" but she identified herself as a Customer Retention specialist. After going through the reasons for my call (I wasn't looking for a rebate as much as I want to watch my local Hockey team on TV), she offered the $10 a month discount for the next year. Insomuch as I'm locked in for the next two years anyway, I figured something is better than nothing, so I took the deal. But I still would rather have live hockey.

I didn't know this hibernation is possible. I may end up doing this for myself because of a financial situation and unemployment. Presently I have the 250 package with HD250 add on and HD plat. I was originally thinking I would reduce to one of the HD only packages just on Price point. I really don't want to call them to say I going to leave Dish network because I have a better offer from Directv. Only to have the feeling any "better" deal that comes from thin air would probably require a commitment too 12 month or 24 month. I just purchased a Roku box over the weekend to try it out because they have a 20% deal on the middle model with a 30 day trial of Hulu plus and if that works out I may also get Netflix. Hopefully I will have this box for the weekend to try it out.
Anyway thanks for the hibernation tip.

I am familiar with your plight because I am originally from that area.
Because all three NY Metro NHL teams are on MSG, you get no local NHL.
If were still up there, I'd have gone to another provider the SECOND Dish cut off MSG.
Don't know if I'd go to Cablevision though. Is FiOS available in Warwick?

I have refused to go anywhere near Cablevision - they were what sent me to Dish in the first place. Horrendous service, and a poor signal. FIOS is not available up here in Warwick yet, and probably won't be for some time - they've said publicly that they intend to build out the areas they're currently in before they expand further afield. Going with either of them, however, at the same time I have a two year commitment to Dish just isn't economically feasible. Not to mention the hundreds of hours of recordings on DVR's and EHDs, Dish's hooks are in pretty deep.

If I didn't watch NBA, I would be gone. My bill isn't bad, though... 39.99 Top 120 HD Free. I have one 722K with OTA module and run component to one TV and HDMI to the other. I watch a ton of stuff on both of my Xbox 360's. We use it alot for my daughters cartoons and for Netflix. If Microsoft works out some sports deals with their upcoming TV on Xbox project, I will cancel.

For what it is worth, though... I am happy with Dish and I think my bill is very reasonable for what I get.
 
I still carry the welcome pack + internationals as dtv does not carry a few internationals I watch, with a single 722. I think it is a shame that it has boiled down to customers having to threaten to leave dish to get family/welcome packs.
