Dish receiver with non-dish LNB

I obviously don't understand all that I think I know about this .

I purchased a 24" Round Winegard dish from a well-known dealer to use on the 129 satellite. However, he sent me the square tube instead of the advertised "D" tube version. I tried using a plastic adapter for my DP twin, which worked, but poorly (I assume because it was now sitting beyond the dish focal point).

Dealer then sends me an "Eagle Aspen VTV32+" LNB to install on the end of the square tube and says it will work fine. After installing it, (to a dp-44) using an inexpensive sat-finder meter the meter powers up through the switch and I find the 129 signal and tweak for maximum. I remove the meter, then run a "check switch" using both a 508 and 622 receiver. Both receivers report no connection on that switch port.

Should a Dish receiver see a non-dish LNB?

I guess I could saw down the dish arm the length of the adapter and use the DP LNB, but I'm in an arm cast another 5 weeks making it a bit of a problem.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi Gary,

Correct, it is a DPP-44. However, I connected the "Eagle Aspen VTV32+" LNB through an old dp-34, and direct, to both 508 and 622 receivers and it still wasn't recognized.

Thanks!

Joe

DPP44 & DP34 will only work with Dish Pro LNBs your Eagle Aspen is a LEGACY LNB and won't work with those switches. If your dealer is such a GOOD dealer they would know the capabilities of the equipment they sell. If they are a reputable dealer they will exchange it for a "D" tube dish.:)In your first post you said you used a "Y" adapter and a DP Twin. You can't do this you need a DP single or dual for the 24" dish.

Hi boba,

Thanks for the definitive answer on the Eagle LNB. The dealer did say he would send me another dish, if it came to that. I just thought that with shipping costs what they are, if an LNB swap would solve the issue I'd be happy. The plastic adapter I used was straight/single LNB, not the common "Y", I think it was from a Dish 500 converted for 129 (129's signal is barely usable here in WA state with a 300/500 dish, so the trend seems to be to use a 24" or 30" dish).

Thanks to all -- what a great forum!

What you need is a DP Dual LNB.

They come in two main styles. One has a solid D shaped portion that mounts to the Arm of the dish, the other has a hollow piece at the top of the D.

If you get the hollow one, you can hacksaw/sawzall the hollow D shaped part off of the top of the LNB and it will fit your square tube dish.

There is also a canadian company that makes a square tube DishPro Dual LNB. I have not seen those in south florida for a couple of years though.

Hi popzezo,

That's the adapter I was using, referenced in my original post. Here's what I'm fuzzy on: It's about 4" long. Using it, wouldn't the LNB now be 4" further away from the designed focal point, thus losing signal?

Thanks!

Joe

as a matter of fact today i had a trouble call with the same issue.. i made a new dish and gave them a brand spankin new lnb.

and yes it will change the focus point, but not enough to make signal loss too bad .. maybe 10db.. youd get that with two or three barrels. id still get a dish 500 and a dp dual.. thats the best solution to this. if you can catch one of the vans.. not a sub contactor (most of them have to buy their dishes and lnbs), im sure theyd give you a dish and lnb.. they can write the dual off on another job

How good is the 1000.2?

A strange coincidence or.....?
